Hey everyone, not often i post in third trimester but thought i might be able to get a few answers here.

Basically i have really bad SPD, i struggle rolling over in bed, getting up and down from the sofa, in and out of the bath/car, i cant lift my legs more then an inch off the ground without crippling pain, and i have constant back ache that means i sleep very little. I literally cannot do anything without the help of someone else.

I have been to my doctor/midwife a fair few times and they have offered me NO help at all so far all they say to me is "the only cure is to have the baby".

On sunday i will be 37 weeks, does anyone know where i stand if i was to ask about having a sweep or induction after i become full term? seeing as they say that is the only cure.

I have a doctors appointment today at 10:50, so im going to ask AGAIN for some help but who knows if they will do anything :(

xx

Ive been in the same predicament, but th eonly thing they've offered me are crutches or a wheelchair :nope:

The midwife recommended to get some Panadeine Plus with codeine in it (only for night) and to let my husband get it since they probably will not want to give it to me..

Other then that i just get the 'you will just have to wait it out' comments too..

i dont understand how they can just let people be in this much pain!
If we wasn't pregnant they would do more, it just seems they make us deal with it, when surely we should have more help because its bad enough having a 5lb+ baby weighing down on your hips without all this pain added to it.

Its frustrating too because some days i have to stay in bed until either my mum or OH comes home from work to help me up! I feel like an 70 year old woman not a 22 year old woman

Same here hun. I don't think they can induce you because of the pain. Worth trying. Just remember to cry - its is the only way they can understand in how much pain you are.
Good luck! I would love an early induction so please update us with the result of your appt

i will let you all know how it goes!
Im not a big crier, and doubt i could fake it but tbh how i feel atm when i try and explain to her i probably wont need to fake it lol.

Hi, they wont induce or sweep you before the 40 week mark im afraid. The risks well outweigh the benefits. You only have a month or so left :hugs:

I cant offer much help and I am sure you have already tried most of these but
heating pad
pillow between the legs at night or when lying down
dont cross your legs at all
yoga style stretches (help a bit you can google for these)
I noticed sitting in the bath helps but I have to sit on a folded up towel as all the pressure is right on my tailbone!
Even sitting on the couch or soft chair I put a pillow under one cheek, seems to help
At about 28 weeks my pain was awful, my doc put me on 3 days of steroids; it helped alot to decrease the inflammation. I know steroids arent safe long term in pregnancy but the 3 days of high dose helped for a couple weeks
tylenol/paracetomol is safe
talk to your doc about a low dose pain med if tylenol isnt helping! there are ones that are used all the time in pregnancy so there is no reason for you to be sitting in pain when there are other options for them to try besides "wait and see"!

alot of people i know have also been given advice for how to stand up, and get about etc but i have been told nothing. all i know is from what i have got looking online baths always help my backache but then its cancelled when i try and get out of the bath so i go straight back to square one.
I will try everything you have suggested though thank you :)

sounds weird but get a pair of lycra cycling shorts and wear them under your clothes. They help keep things together but have enough give so you dont really suffer when they come off IYKWIM?

I did get a maternity support belt that is meant to support the front of the bump but it does help the tailbone/spd pain. I forgot all about it. We have not had a day below 90 in over a month so I cannot wear it without dying of heat! The shorts probably do the same thing and might be a little cooler and cheaper!

Got one just like this one from amazon, maybe $25 I think?

I have been diagnosed with SPD too, and it has definately been getting worse over the last couple of weeks so I'm a bit worried that I still have 11 weeks or so to go!! My midwife has referred me for Physio and Hydrotherapy. It isn't a cure, but will hopefully help at least. Not fun at all!! Good luck hun xxx

I had one of those belts last time and found them horrid and uncomfortable! I dread to think what im going to be like at full term. It gets worse with every baby and last time i was crippled by the end

i asked my midwife about physio and she said "im not going to refere you because i don't personally think it helps" and then when i went to the doctors again after that he asked why id refused physio and the midwife had put on my notes that id refused physio. I was sooo annoyed!!

I have tried looking to buy one of those belts but all the shops near me that sell them are sold out or stopped stocking them. But i have heard they are horribly uncomfortable but tbh i dont know which discomfort i would prefere atm!

xx

The physios dont do much hun they really don't. All mine did was give me a belt and tell me what not to do  some people get crutches and a number to order a wheelchair.

To be honest I was Had the same situation, I had PGP since 26 weeks, and only now at 36 weeks I saw a physio. I don't think it helped a lot excepts I got crutches and some exercise to do.
But it is so wrong how they treat us! :hugs:

it really is, they just seem to think that because we decided to get pregnant that we should deal with whatever it throws at us.
I know some people who got really great help from thier doctors but mine is just awful. but then they always have been with whatever you go to them about!!

What pain relief are you on? Its tricky cos youre so close to delivery :(

I don't find the belt too bad. Of course I would rather not wear it but it does help. It is just tight like a girdle almost! Usually end up loosening it every time I go to the bathroom and only wear it about 6 hours. I am a nurse on my feet the whole shift so I carry it to work and put it on every so often. But it is def tight & hot!!

That is very annoying that you "refused" therapy without even knowing. I always wonder what docs write vs what people actually say. I know there is a girl on here who is Pg with SPd and has been in a w/c. I believe her doc told her induction @ 37 weeks. I'm sure she will pop in! Hers is an extreme case with some other history too. not typical for them to induce at 37 weeks.
weeks!

im 38 weeks and really want midwife to suggest being induced or a sweep or anything to get baby out even if she just arranges it for my due date i dont care i just dont want to be left potentially another month if baby is overdue and have to end up being induced at 42 weeks anyway

Last night everytime baby moved or kicked i felt sharp pains in pelvic area too and feels like its going to split in two.. also i get sore/dead hips during the night on both sides and cant sleep on back at all because i cant breath (and your not supposed to) sick of the pain and sleepless nights

seeing midwife today hopefully she wont brush me off again like the past two appointments..

I feel your pain guys and the worse things is OH and other women in family who hav been pregnant thing im milking the whole cant do anything because of being pregnant but they dont understand how it feels because they didnt suffer the pains!!!!!

Hi
I am in exactly the same situation and fortunately my midwife is a bit more supportive. She referred me to the physio but am still waiting for appointment. She is not hopeful it will help but she thinks it's worth a try.,I am nearly 36 weeks and she has also referRed me to the doctor as I can't lie down comfortable and she is worried how I am going to labour naturally. She is hopeful they won't let me go Past my due date. My appointment is today so I will let you know what they say although every nhs trust has different attitudes!
Anyway my brothers who are both doctors say to really paint the worst picture so tears are always worth a try!! good luck!
