we went to A & E today as alfie was getting worse crying in agony after each feed fighting with his bottle not sleeping for longer than 30 mins at a time...they made us wait 4 hours before telling us that he could be lactse intolerant or have reflux now they said if its reflux then hed outgrow it but hes in so much pain...anyway i decided to try him on soya based formula..SMa
Wysoya...is anyone elses LO on soya based formula ?? how long did it take them to get used to it...hes also having infant gaviscon mixeed in with it

he only seems to be taking 3 oz and then falling to sleep

--x :flow:

It will take some getting used to my son has been allergic to dairy since birth and he is on special formula even if he takes little bits its better than nothing x

A formula switch is rough on them. It gets worse before it gets better even if the new formula helps. Give it a couple weeks.

Our LO was put on sma lactose free to see if it would help his eczema, it didn't, but he was so unsettled and constipated, switched back to comfort food now. I looked up soy formula on the Internet to see if this might help his eczema but decided against it, one possible side effect is male fertility problems, and I think it said it's not recommended before 6 months. I don't want to alarm you, and I am not an expert, but maybe best to go and see your gp to go through the options, and if they think it's appropriate they can prescribe a specialised formula. Hope your LO settles down soon for you.

Give any formula change two full weeks. It'll take time for the old formula to work it's way out of the system and the new one to take over. It'll seem like it's getting worse even if it's working.

Macy was exactly like this, it turned out to be silent reflux and she's now on SMA Staydown and like a completely different baby. We tried the Gaviscon first but had better results with the Staydown milk. It took about a week to see a difference but now feeds are fuss free and no crying afterwards, she's also sleeping much longer and has gone a couple of 5hour stretches at night. Compared to 2-3 hours before.

If he was lactose intolerant he'd probably have diarrhoea and lots of painful wind.

Look out for this as this could suggest silent reflux -

Arching back during feeds and pulling away
Fussing/crying at feeds and afterwards
Refusing bottle or only sucking a little but hungry
Pulling away from bottle then shaking head crying and wanting it back
Crying and fighting when being winded
Raspy/wheezy sound from chest after feeding
Lots of hiccups
Poor sleep
Poor weight gain

Hope that helps xx

mine was exactly the same - GP switched LO to WySoy @ 12 weeks and we saw no improvement, he was convinced she had some type of allergy, I was convinced it was reflux....
the WySoy didn't improve the situation (had her on it 3 weeks and it took a week for her to drink a full bottle) so I tried the Staydown with immediate results - never looked back x
