All of today I've had this pain in my lower abdomen, about 4 inches diagonally to the right from my bellybutton.
It's a stabbing pain that lasts just a few seconds but I'm getting it really often. It was quite mild this morning but by 4pm I was yelping in pain every time it happened.
My midwife said it could be grumbling appendix but after reading the symptoms it sounds more like acute appendicitis to me (just speculating though).
Has anybody ever had appendicitis during pregnancy and can describe the pain they had?

I really couldn't say but if it was me I would go to the hospital X

I agree, it's better safe than sorry. I would go if it's that bad.

Yes go to hospital if worried. Don't leave it xx

I was in the hospital two weeks ago thinking I had appendicitis. I had HORRIBLE pain in my lower right quadrant. They gave me a couple shots of morphine, an ultrasound to check out baby, and an mri. Everything came back fine with my diagnosis being a torn round ligament. That is about my only experience with it but definitely don't leave it. If it is appendicitis, leaving it could kill you. Get checked out

I had it when I was pregnant with my first. Ended up having my appendix out when I was 21 weeks along.

The pain was indescribable. Intermittent at first but it got to the point where I couldn't even take a breath in or stand upright without near tipping over in agony. In the beginning I'd compare it to how I'd feel when my IBS would flare up, but very localized to the right lower quadrant. Sorry if tmi, but it felt as if I was trying to work a watermelon through my lower gut and it had become impacted.

I've never heard of a merely "grumbling" appendix, or not treating it if that's what's going on. As far as my doctor, OB and surgeon were concerned appendicitis is either the problem and will remain the problem until the appendix is removed or perforates, or it's not. You definitely don't want it to get to the point of becoming an "acute" case or you're at serious risk of perforation which can and will kill you in a very short amount of time.

I hope if you haven't found relief by now that you've gone in!!!

Hey ladies. Thanks for your replies.
I ended up in the after-hours surgery at 4am as the pain was waking me up and unbearable. After being poked and prodded, the Doctor said he doesn't think it is appendicitis, due to the pain being different to what would usually be present. They took some blood and they're gonna let me know the results later. In the meantime I have a scan at 1pm to make sure my placenta is ok and the baby is still fine.
Bloody stressful day and night... And it's my birthday! :dohh: hehe...

Aw, Happy Birthday, sorry its been spent in hospital! Hope you get some good results for your test and they can work out where the pain is coming from :hugs:

My midwife just called with my results... She said baby is fine and the placenta is fine too. I apparently have an enlarged kidney on the right side but she said it's nothing to worry about, it can happen from organs moving about or baby kicking it and it becomes inflamed. It's painful as hell but at leaat there's nothing bad going on, so I'm pretty happy right now!

And as a plus, I got to see baby on my birthday :-D

Doesn't sound like fun at all but at least it's nothing serious and you could find a silver lining! Happy Birthday!!!
