April Mummies 2011

To those who are FF.... How much are you feeding LO?
Toby is getting 7oz every 4 hours but this week he's been waking up hungry at 3:30am. I thought 7oz was a lot but if he's getting hungry in the early hours, should I add another daytime feed? So feed every 3hrs instead of 4? Or do 8oz instead of 7 every 4hrs?
I'm so frickin tired. He finishes his 7oz bottle at 3:30, cries for more and doesn't settle properly for an hour or so.

Zzzzzzzzzz.......

We feed on demand, so no set time or amount so can't help sorry. We try to make sure there is more milk than she takes atm but were going to have to go to 8oz bottles soon

Lizzie slept terribly last night although you wouldn't know it from her wide awake and smiling face this morning! Got her down at 11 pm up at 2 to eat again at 4 then at 7 and now again at 8 I am exhausted!! Hopefully this is a growth spurt because otherwise little miss must not be getting enough to eat. I was really hoping to hold out until 6 mos to start food but not if it means no sleep! Hoping tonight is better.

Lizzie is also obsessed with her toes! She wakes up just to play with them and they get her all riled up and excited. Super cute but sometimes I think they over stimulate her and she gets angry with them.

Hoping she naps well today at least.

We are still 4oz every 3hrs except for at night!! We have tried to get her to take more at her feedings but she won't. Doctor says it's ok so I'm not worried about it :) she was 13lbs 6oz the other day so I know she is growing!! lol

On that northern lights map I think if you get close to the orange you might be able to see them. We're always in the blue too and we haven't seen any. I've never seen them in Iowa although I know its possible. The next 2 years are going to be very active! The coronal mass ejection that we had yesterday was huge, the largest since 2003 but it was on the edge of the sun so it might miss us. I would still keep an eye on that map on the 11th and if you have clear skies look north. This could knock out satellite communication.

I've been wondering for a while if Isis was reverse cycling at least a little. She only takes ~9 oz when I'm at work and feeds like a maniac in the evenings. Then she also started waking every 2 hours from 1am until we got up for the day. She acts as though she's starving when she wakes up too. She's started going to bed at 7 lately but last night I kept her up until 8:30 because we were out with some co-workers that wanted to see her and she only woke at 1:30 and then 5:30 so I'm wondering if I need to keep her up longer and then maybe she'll go back to a better sleep pattern.

Good job getting her to go to sleep without nursing! I know I should try that but its so easy to nurse her to sleep and I know it'll work without fuss. I'll have to think about it...

I'll definitely keep the map up, I check it each night just in case because I know it's possible to see them here.

Sounds like both of our little ones are reverse cycling to some extent. I can handle one middle of the night feed but 2 or 3 are exhausting me. She still has a bit of congestion from her cold which might be making it harder for her to eat.

I probably would continue to nurse her to sleep because like you said it's easy but little one just doesn't nurse to sleep as well as she used to.

Isis went through a phase where she wouldn't nurse to sleep, she didn't want to nurse and would cry and thrash, latch and unlatch. So I would try every night and each night when I couldn't take it anymore I would put her down and give her the pacifier. Then I would tag out to DH who would come up and replace the pacifier every time she'd lose it until she went to sleep. It usually took him about 20 minutes to settle her. For some reason she's back to nursing to sleep and doesn't need the pacifier. I barely ever give it to her. Strange.
I'm going to try to keep her up a little tonight to see if I can get her to sleep like last night. Also we're going to Oregon at the end of the month so we'll have to adjust her time schedule anyway.
I'm with you, one middle of the night feeding is fine but 3 sometimes 4 was really getting to me. I also think its why I'm still sick but Isis is almost over the cold.

Sounds like keeping her up a bit should help her to sleep better at night, really hope it works out for you! Lizzie normally doesn't go to bed before 11 no matter how hard I try to put her down closer to 10. Her sleeping patterns have been all over the place since she got this cold a week ago so really hoping it will pass soon and she'll go back to he normal ways. I cannot get her to nap today for anything. Normally she wakes, has an eat then goes back to sleep for 2 hours, eats again then back down for another hour and then takes at least one other nap later in the day. Today she's ready to go though!

Luckily it's nice out (70s instead of 90s!) so I'll take her for a walk later and then have to head to the post office and mail a package. Usually getting her out helps her to nap better.

I'm getting some new Bum Genius Flips cloth diapers in the mail today from an online sale and am so excited, silly I know!! I haven't been using cloth for the past few weeks because we're trying to use up all of the size 1 diapers before she totally outgrows them. We're slowly getting to the bottom of the pile and I can't wait because I much prefer cloth, especially the cute colors under one of her sundresses.

Isis doesn't take naps really. She doesn't want to miss out on the excitement, even if there isn't any. 2 days ago she napped a total of 45 minutes! she also went to bed at 5 that day :dohh:
I didn't know you were doing cloth too! I have one flip cover (zinnia) and 4 stay dry inserts. I also bought a Thirsties duo cover (size1 blackbird). I use them at night because she doesn't poop at night so I can reuse them. I use disposables at daycare but nights and weekends are fluffy. We also have an assortment of pockets and about 20 homemade (by my mom) AIO sized. I love putting her in a dress coordinated with her diaper :) I might get another flip when she's on solids. she poops several times a day still so its not worth it to use a wrap during the day.
She's still on size 1! We switched to size 2 a while ago but I didn't notice much difference. I think we'll be going to 3's when she's out of 2's. She has a poo-splosion every day in the 2's. We never have poo-splosions in her cloth though...
Have a nice walk!

Lizzie is definitely a people person baby. The more noise and activity going on around her the happier she is. She definitely gets that from her Daddy, I'm not a huge crowd person myself. So we like to try and get her out at least once a day either to a restaurant or to family or shopping, anywhere she can be around lots of people. She's so funny at restaurants she'll actually stare and stare at the table next to us like she's trying to join their conversation!

I didn't know you used cloth either! My Mom says the size 1's are too small on her (she's 14 lbs) but honestly I find the fit with the size 1 better than the size 2. She had an explosion in one of the size 1's at my Mom's so since then I've sent over size 2's for her to use. I still use the 1's at home and have only had one leak and that was because she hadn't gone poo for nearly 24 hours. We have a box of size 2 from our baby shower but will definitely buy size 3 after that as I don't think there's a huge difference.

I love to use cloth on the weekends and the days I don't work. DH is pretty good about using them as well but tends to put sposies on her when he's in a hurry or we're headed out. I think using a mix of both makes the most sense for us so we'll always have some sposies on hand.

Right now I'm using FB and BG 4.0 pockets mostly and will be trying out the 3 new flip covers as soon as I get them. I have lots of prefolds but haven't been brave enough to try those out. I don't really get leaks or explosions with the cloth but do have a wicking problem around the legs if I don't put them on super tight (DH thinks it's too tight but it doesn't leave a mark on her skin so I think it's fine).

Off to get dressed (finally) and out for our walk and errands.

Here's a pic of miss Lizzie in her bumpo at a restaurant. She loves being the center of attention during meals.

Where in Oregon are you going? I'm close (kinda) fro the border. Rosie takes 4-5 oz every 2.5 to 3 hours. She takes about 12 oz when I'm gone for 10 or so hours. Rosie was having sleep problems but now she's been pretty good. Have fun inyour walk! I'm hopng for a river day today. Also were going j to 3s at the end if this pack of 2s. I'm still working on diapers from y baby shower though. So we'll see once diapers are gone about cloth. I'd probably use them already if I was buying diapers myself lol

I hadn't thought about using a bumbo at a restaurant. Now I have another reason to buy one! We would lay her on the table but now she's too curious.
the flips would work well with the prefolds too. We have problems with wicking on the ones my mom made so I only use them around the house and without pants. It seems like my AIO's wick but the pockets and wraps don't. DH mostly uses sposies. I think cloth requires too much thought for him :) he's not very good at diapering even with sposies. I've also started using cloth wipes and I really love them! I'm even bringing cloth to Oregon. I wish we could do cloth all the time but I can't imagine the teachers at her school using them. By the end of the year they're going to have 12 babies in her room! I bought 11 pre-loved Kushies that I was going to use for daycare but she's just too skinny for them. She has big gaps on the legs so they sit in her closet. I'm probably going to sell them. I'm tired of waiting for her to fit in them. I don't see her getting chubby enough.
We're going to be near Salem. I grew up there and most of my family lives there. Then we'll be going up to the San Juan Islands for about 5 days.

Bummer. Salem is still pretty far from me
Good thinking on the bumbo at a restaurant! I'm gonna have to remember that,. Yea there really isn't much difference in size from 2-3 and I should have exchanged the size 2 his but I didn't. I at least feel like when baby 2 comes (whenever lol) ill know more about it.

Hope all went good today gem. Thinking of u.

She loves the bumbo because it puts her up closer to eye level with everyone. She's not quite stable enough to sit in a highchair so this is a nice intermediate step. She hates her car seat and really I can't blame her, I wouldn't want to be reclining and unable to see a lot of stuff either. And she hardly ever falls asleep while out so we leave the carseat in the car and just carry her and the bumbo in.

Ran out to post office and she did good, threw her in the stroller (without car seat anymore) and she was content to just babble at everyone that walked by as I was filling out the forms. Back home now and she's in her bouncer, she can finally just barely touch the floor in it. She's been using it for over a month but we used to have a box under it so she could touch.

I need thoughts and prayers....My mom was suppose to have back surgery Friday but when they did all the pre-testing/x-rays they found a shadow on her lung. She went to her other doctor this morning and he thinks its a lung tumor and has sent her for a CT scan asap! I'm a little numb right now...trying to stay positive!

Emmy, sending prayers and positive thoughts your way. I really hope it ends up being nothing and if it is a tumor that it's totally benign. Huge hugs to you and your Mom :hugs:

Toby is getting 7oz every 4 hours but this week he's been waking up hungry at 3:30am. I thought 7oz was a lot but if he's getting hungry in the early hours, should I add another daytime feed? So feed every 3hrs instead of 4? Or do 8oz instead of 7 every 4hrs?
