To find cow and gate easy to digest formula???

My LO has been badly constipated since Saturday, so I've been giving him water each day, warm baths where I rub his belly and when he's in pain I'm pushing his knees to his chest (if anyone has any other ideas they'd be welcome).

I realllly need to get him some easy digestable formula but it seems to be the hardest thing to get! My local supermarket doesn't sell it. My Mum drove me to a large supermarket and they didn't have it. I went to my small local boots who said they could order it in. They called today to say they couldn't get cow and gate, but got the aptimil easy digest stuff instead.

Aptimil was the first formula I tried him on, and he was really refluxy with it, and his face went all red and blotchy so I don't want to try it again. How hard can it be to find damn formula???

I'm going to have to head into town tomorrow to see if the large boots has it, or maybe mothercare. If they don't I might lose the plot (and my sanity as he won't stop crying)

Just a thought, have you ordering online it from Tesco/Asda etc?

That's my last resort option. I did a big shop yesterday when I went to the supermarket with my Mum so don't need anything apart from the formula!! I also only want to buy 1 tub just in case it doesn't work or he doesn't like it.

Also I've never had an online order go right! I live above a shop and the drivers never seem to find my flat so return the shopping to the store, it's a bit of a nightmare!!

Well I hope you manage to find somewhere convenient to get it from!! Maybe the larger Boots will be better at getting hold of some for you if they don't stock it! Or you could ring Cow and Gate themselves and ask where they stock it local to you. Good luck!

Oh I hadn't thought of ringing cow and gate direct. That's a great idea, thanks :)

Thats strange, all of the supermarkets here have it. Although it's not called Easy Digest anymore it's Cow and Gate Comfort milk

I've been googling, and I mean tge comfort one. But nowhere has it!!!!

I feel so bad as he's screaming sooo much and I can't do sod all to help :( I was soooo excited when the boots said they'd have it in for me today. Grrr.

Maybe it is colic. try to give him gripe wate or infacol. my LO started to do the same when he was 2 wks old. I'm giving him quiqoze from Nestle now after I struggled with finding the right formula

I'm not sure if it's colic as well as constipation. He's still pooing once a day, but it's so hard and there's not much of it, and I can see him really straining too.

Last night I gave him infacol just in case, and he did a big burp and stop crying (apart from being really grissly when he was straining) so I think it could be both.

Although someone said infacol doesn't help constipation. I might get some gripe water to see if that helps.

If he's constipated it might be worth having a word with your Dr.
They may be able to help with some kind of laxative - plus it will be free!
I don't know for sure if there is anything that can be given but I would ask the question myself.

Hope you find some soon.

Infacol takes a good while to get into there systems and you need to give it with every feed.

I gave my LO gripe water before he was a month old too, I just used half the dosage (2.5ml as opposed to 5)

This may sound very crude but my MW suggested it when my son had constipation, very gently stimulate the opening of his anus with a cotton bud with some vaseline on it, sometimes in small babies the anus muscles tighten whilst they are trying to push and they dont relax again and this stimulates it enough to allow a good bowel movement. Dont put the cotton bud inside just gently rub the area.

Sam

That's the trick I tried with my LO when we went through the same about 5 weeks. I don't use a cotton bud though, just linger a little longer than usual when I'm putting her vaseline on and use a bit more pressure than usual.

Just noticed you posted this on 12th Jan so hope you've had a solution by now

Hope you have found somewhere to get it by now. You can order it from Boots online and have it delivered free to a store of your choice - thought this may be of use for the future if it is suiting your LO. I think it takes about 5 days to arrive though.
