I'm not sure anyone I know likes the name Ariel, which makes me a bit sad. I know for a fact my mum hates it (which only makes me dig my heels in and want it more!).
I *love* it though... but thinking others won't like it upsets me a bit. What does everyone think? I've seen it spelt Arielle as well, which is pretty but I'm not sure I like it as much. And I assume it'd be pronounced differently?
Also, I am so stuck on what I'd use for a middle name if we went with it. The perfect choice to me would be Rose but hubby really hates it. Nothing else seems like it goes.

PS. Second choice is Georgia which I also love, would be the safer option. No idea on middle name for that either!

i like it! Much prefer it to Georgia.

I quite like Ariel, it's different but not overly weird, I'd be a bit worried about a connection to Little Mermaid but who doesn't like the Little Mermaid?

Are there no family members you want to honour? Other than that I like Ariel Grace :cloud9: Ariel Elisabeth? Ariel Rebecca? Ariel Suzanne?

I love the name, however for me, I grew up obsessed with the Little Mermaid and so for me feels about the same as calling a child Cinderella.... maybe if you changed the spelling the connection would be a bit less? Like, Arielle...

EDIT; Just read your post properly and saw you mentioned Arielle... ignore me

If I spelt it Arielle would it be pronounced differently though?
Tbh the little mermaid association doesn't worry me as I quite like that, it's much better than the other association - my mum bangs on about the washing powder! *head desk*

I would pronounce Ariel as Air-ee-ull and Arielle as a Air-ee-ell so I don't think there is much difference. Oh yeah, I never thought about Ariel washing powder, I don't think that's a big problem either, it's not like you're thinking about calling her Bin or something.

I pronounce them both the same, kinda half way in between Air-ee-ul and Air-ee-el... I completely forget about the washing powder too, so I don't think many people would make that connection...

And I love the Little Mermaid btw, I still watch it from time to time :haha: I actually know all the words to all the songs... which I really shouldn't be admitting...

the first thing i though was little mermaid then the washing powder but i like the way it sounds i think if i was to use it it change the spelling although i think when your lo is at school she would prob get the little mermaid jokes and stuff kids will think of any thing they can to tease each other  i do like how its different though

x

I love the name Ariel and have considered using it myself ;)

Thanks ladies. :) And PMSL at the 'Bin' comment!
I guess I thought Arielle would be more like 'AR-ee-el', you know, like Sebastian says it in the film? Oh God must stop the mermaid associations now!
They're both pretty, maybe I'll see if my mum could cope with Arielle better (still prefer Ariel though, lol)

Not so keen on ariel it reminds me of wash powder sorry hun but i love georgia how about georgia-rose georgia-may or even georgia-ariel at the end of the day its your choice hun xx

Not sure what to think, def prefer Gorgia though! x

Never heard of the powder, doesn't exist here most likely. I like the name. If you like it, than you should go for it.

I think Ariel is a very pretty name! Even if people associate it with the Little Mermaid, at least that isn't a bad association! She's a pretty Disney princess... nothing wrong with that! Lots of people use the name Jasmine, even though that is the princess from Aladdin! I say go for it! Personally i like the spelling Arielle... but would say it "Airy-elle". I would pronounce Ariel... "Airy-ul".

TBH, i much prefer Ariel/Arielle to Georgia.

Ariel Grace
Ariel Alexis
Ariel Madison
Ariel Nicole
Ariel Savannah
Ariel Jade
Ariel Hope
Ariel Winter
Ariel Georgia

have you considered? Aria?? said are-e-a thats my nieces name and i think it is cute??

i dont like it tbh ... sorry ...

think she might get picked on a bit
would be better used as a middle name

:flower:

xx

like Arielle!

but Ariel makes me think of the washing powder

i love it!!!

like it spelt Arielle, tbh i never even thought of the washing powder till someone mentioned it!

i would have Arielle Alexandra xxx

I really like it. Go ahead and use it, it's not a common name so she's unlikely to be stuck in school with a bunch of other kids with the same name which to me is so boring. I do think people could be a lot more imaginative. :)
