I have a scan for Monday, half 12, basically i've had to take the whole day off work because i don't know how long i'll be at my scan having never had one before and when i went for an early one at 4/5 weeks i was there for the better part of 4 hours.

Work haven't sorted me out a contract yet even though i have reminded them countless amount of times!!!! I should of had one on February this year due to being kept on after an apprenticeship but i haven't had one yet and now my boss said i'll have to either take a whole day off work or deduct a days pay. Is this right? I've gone for the holiday option but i thought you got paid for antenatal appointments, do you think it is because i haven't got a contract or because i'm having the whole day off?

I don't think it matters about the contract because the Government set the rules that every women is allowed paid time off for antenatal appointments.

Time off for antenatal care

All pregnant employees, however long they have been in their jobs, are entitled to reasonable time off work for antenatal care. Any time off must be paid at your normal rate of pay. It is unlawful for your employer to refuse to give you reasonable time off for ante-natal care or to pay you at your normal rate of pay.

Your employer can ask for evidence of antenatal appointments from the second appointment onwards. If asked you should show your employer a medical certificate showing you're pregnant and an appointment card or some other written evidence of your appointment.

Antenatal care may include relaxation or parent craft classes as well as medical examinations, if these are recommended by your doctor. If you can, try to avoid taking time off work when you can reasonably arrange classes or examinations outside working hours.

I dont think a contact would come into it - its government law.

Hiya, everyone is entitled to paid time off for ante natal appts-however i think this is within reason, and i think a whole day is a bit much?

Routine scans usually only last around 20 minutes so perhaps you could change it to a half day off work-maybe work until 11am or go back after your scan?

EDIT:Sorry if i sounded bit rude there! I was thinking from an employers perspective!

or could you maybe change your scan appointment for first thing or late afternoon so you could work a half day? if i was an employer i would also consider a whole day to be excessive tbh
