As a parent is it ok to break the Law?

Funding ruthless criminals? Buying it from home growers is funding ruthless criminals? Thats how its usually done here.

And it most likely will be legalised in the future, the world is moving that way towards it.

It won't be legalised here in the UK now or any time in the future and im grateful about that. I don't like people that smoke it and i certainly wouldn't socialise with them

How can you be so sure? And you probably already do socialise with people who use it, you just don't realise. Contrary to popular belief its not just potheads who use it.

The stench is a sure give away, and Im quite confident that none of my friends smoke it considering they have the same view as me

You think people that use it smell like it all the time? :haha:
Maybe none of your friends do but I'm sure at least one person know does, or has done, its a lot more common than you think.

I knew some chefs many years ago who would use it after a service, they would be quite fun and chatty and then start smoking weed, and boy things just turned boring and stupid within a few mins, since then I have always hated it.

I hate it when I am walking to work and people are driving whist smoking it and it stinks, or they cycle past and again the smell is awful. I would never employ anyone at my company who smokes it

I think you'd find it difficult to discover if every member of your staff smoked it, its not always something people discuss and people from all walks of life use it. I don't, won't and refuse to have it in my house or by my LO but i have friends who do, i have friends parents who do, etc.

Using it while driving should be treated the same as drink driving (even though it is safer than drink driving, it does affect ability). I've never smelt people using it in the streets though (except on the odd rare occasion).

If it doesnt affect the work they are doing then thats discrimination surely. You couldnt possibly know if all your staff were smoking it because not everyone smells of weed.

Yeah if they're not using it AT work then it seems like discrimination to me. Unless of course they have a conviction for it, cos then you can discriminate on the basis of criminal record I suppose (not really sure if thats right but I assume so)

You should seriously live in some areas of the UK, its everywhere sadly.

Also, as it is an illegal drug it wouldn't be discrimation I don't think.

Alcohol is more the drug of choice here but I'd much rather have people smoking in the streets than see drunks pissing on street corners which is what you normally see here.

But if its not affecting their work and its something they only do at weekends how could you get away with not employing them. Firstly you have to prove they smoke it before you judge them

Yeh thats true, i'm geuninely not sure, as PP said if there is a conviction thats probably the only way to not employ

Believe me I know my staff members, none of them smoke and they all socialise in the same circle I socialise in.

My sister and her hubby work with mental health patients where weed has been a contributing factor, so no matter how many times someone tries to tell that the drug is 'great' etc and should be legalised, i will never change my mind on how bad i think the drug is

Wow this has turned into a weed debate.

Before I start, I don't smoke it and I don't allow it in my house although OH smokes it but only elsewhere. I don't allow it in my house the same as I don't allow smoking because of LO. Also because it's illegal. My OH's friend (who owns his own business - a very successful restaurant and a confectionery making business) grows it for himself and friends.

It is MUCH more common than you would think. I know a group of ladies with good jobs - solicitors, nurses, teachers etc. and every Tuesday they have a "wine" night which actually involves a glass of wine and a few cannabis joints being passed around. They would die of shame if it got out as it has such a stigma attached.

I think that it's a far less evil drug than alcohol. My father is an alcoholic and I lived with him for 18years so I should know. Alcohol turns people violent and abusive, they lose their morals, their personality changes, they behave recklessly and do things they would never consider in their sober mind. It ruins lives. Cannabis is mild compared to alcohol. I despise drunk people, I cannot stand to be around them and I would much rather be in the company of someone who has had a few spliffs than someone who has had a few drinks.

:)

Honestly, I've given this a great deal of thought and I do agree, my father is an alcoholic and MIL's boyfriend smokes weed, i know who i'd rather be around.
My only problem with weed is that it is illegal and for those who buy it from dealers it does fund a whole wave of other criminal acts.
Also, it effing' stinks, it nauseates me and makes feel faint, i won't haven't around LO, in my home and i won't take her to a home where it is reguarly smoked, or leave her in the care of someone smoking it, simply because at the end of the day, it is a drug, it relaxs you and may make reactions slower.
Which is why the people i know, smoke it when their children are not around, or asleep.
Alcohol is a terrible thing if you don't just have it socially, it can destroy lives and personally, i feel the laws against alcohol should be very different, whilst it may be illegal to serve a drunk person it certainly is ignored.
