With my first, he was such a hungry baby. On a normal day, he'd have 48oz of milk, then at 4 months he stopped sleeping through so I started giving him a teaspoon of baby rice and then he started sleeping through again.

My youngest isn't anywhere near as hungry so I'm going to hold off as long as possible. I don't even know how many weeks he is now... 20 maybe? I think I will hold off until at least 25 weeks this time round. Just wondering when you all plan to start weaning?

With my first i weaned about 16 weeks as he had really bad reflux. With my 2nd he was fine, a right little milk monster so i held off til the reccommended 6 months, well it was honestly the worse thing i did. Ds1 id the best eater, eats anything i put in front of him, not fussy in the slightest, ds 2 is a completely different ball game, he is soooo fussy, will only eat blended food, burks on most things, will not eat finger food but has started to eat it from a spoon (he will pick up wotsis and eat them tho) i have to spoon feed him everything otherwise he wouldnt eat. He still wakes at night for a bottle too. If i had another baby i think i would wean early again, obviously not 16 weeks unless medically needed to but i wouldnt wait til 6 months again. Thats just my opinion tho, lots of people have weaned at 6 months with great success xx

We weaned at 6 months, though she didn't actually eat anything until 8 months. She eats absolutely anything and is the least picky kid I've ever seen. That could of course change at some point but I would put it down to being a normal phase as opposed to associating it with when she was weaned.

my ped said anything over 42 oz needs solids hun. I've never weaned earlier than six months, even ended up weaning DD at 6,5 months. I tried 1-2 days with DS at 5 months by peds recommendation but his sleep got much worse, so I waited until a couple weeks ago.

With my dd I started at 5 months(Ish) and I think il be weaning my boy around 5 months as well unless he starts waking more then the 4 times a night he does now then il wean at 4 months.

Yeah that's why we weaned my first at about 17/18 weeks. My health visitor wasn't too impressed but he was drinking far too much but he was keeping it down. That was hungry baby milk as well! I'm so tempted to give my youngest a little bit of baby rice now just to see if he sleeps through, although I don't think it will make a blind bit of difference so I'm going to hold off a bit longer.

Funnily enough, my friend weaned at about 6 months and she had a nightmare with her son. He wouldn't eat anything! Luckily he's ok now, but then he's the same age as my eldest x

We started at 17 weeks with the HVs go ahead (while she was here he grabbed my toast and tried to eat it!) and he had a lot of milk (still does tbh) I was a little reluctant and just gave him a spoon of pureed fruit/veg and gradually built him up. He would still grab my food. Now we do a combination of baby led and traditional. I'll spoon feed him some puréed fruit and maybe a mix of veg in the evening, other stuff is finger foods. He loves it.

DD1 and 2 were both 17 weeks as that was what was advised then.
DD3 was 24 weeks.
This time I will be weaning again at 24-26 weeks and doing BLW the same as DD3. All 3 of mine are really good eaters but I would say that DD3 is the best overall, she will also try anything we give her, so I defeintly want to go down that route again.

We started ds at 5 1/2 months. Ill aim for 6months with dd but if she shows signs before id start a couple of weeks before.

We're gonna do baby led weaning this time At 6 months, I didn't really enjoy it with ds1 so trying to put it off a bit!

I weaned my DD at 6 months. She was a fab eater and still is. I really enjoyed it and she picked it up very quickly.

My son is 6 months in a few days but we are waiting another 3 weeks to start weaning properly as we are away on holidays and I don't fancy trying to start the whole weaning process whilst away from home. I will prob give him some banana and bits of roast veg or things we are eating to chew on but I won't start thinking about 3 meals a day, making puree's and stuff until we get home.

He's a big boy, weighs 19lbs and eats 48 oz milk per day and night. I spoke to the HV the other day and she too recommended I just wait until I return. If I remember rightly my DD didn't actually eat much food int those first few weeks anyway, think most ended up in every possible place but her tummy :)

6 months. I don't think it'll be hard because he rarely feeds as it is. I waited 6 months with my eldest he was a supposed "hungry baby" fed 2 hourly from 4-6 months and was 20lb before he started food, but I just upped he milk uptake, I will do the same this time.

I'm going to follow this thread because LO isn't 4 months yet and is having between 42-50oz hungry baby milk a day. Midwife recommended weaning from 17 weeks which would be next week but I think it might be worth waiting until he starts going for our food.

Id love to know what medical professionals class as "too much" milk for BF babies as we obviously don't know how many ounces they have....?

My friend BF her wee boy and he would feed for 45 mins every 1.5 hours. This was constant for about 2 months. When she mentioned this to the HV she suggested weaning early from 4 months as it did seem he wasn't being satisfied completely by the breast milk. He did wean really well.

We will do BLW when she's 6 months, maybe slightly before.
I weaned DS (both tw and blw) at 20 weeks.
Both mine aren't/Weren't keen on milk oddly, DS went bck to his original centile after weaning... :/

I just checked ds red book because he was a big baby. He weighed just over 26lb when we started weaning at 5 1/2 months. He was having 35oz of milk a day. No hv ever recomended weaning early. It always find it strange how different hv give such different advice.

I don't think it's down to the size of the baby. They say to wait because that's when babies are usually ready. Jenson had about 7 7oz bottles at 4 months, so close to 50oz and the hv witnessed his interest in my food (being able to put it in his own mouth) otherwise I don't think she'd have been happy to recommend it. He still has 35oz now and has solids/purées so his main food is definitely still milk. However she also said that she likes to see ff babies weaned by 6 months not at 6 months due to losing their iron supply. Who knows. I didn't wean him as soon as she said, but when I felt happy to.

Thomas was just shy of 6 months. He really wasn't interested until 9 months though.

We started at 23 weeks. No earlier as wanted to avoid purees
