Avoid dairy or go full fat?

Hi!

I have another question!

I'm reading a lot of conflicting advice about dairy and TTC. Some sources say I should try and avoid it as much as possible. Others say I should opt for full fat everything!

What should I do?!

Thanks!

Didn't want to read and run but I've no idea. Not heard that one before, be interested to hear other ladies thoughts though.x

I haven't heard much about that either sorry.

I don't have much dairy in my diet and was having a lot of soya products before I realised they aren't recommended either. There seem to be a lot of suggestions of what can and can't help so it's hard to know for 100%.

I would think though avoiding all dairy wouldn't be great for you long term or baby when you conceive because you need the nutrition from it etc.

I haven't heard this either. I'm tending to agree with the above poster, that cutting out all dairy probably wouldn't be good for a baby.

my only worry about cutting dairy would be making sure you are still getting enough calcium. people who are allergic to dairy probably still get pregnant and have healthy babies, but they probably make sure they are getting calcium (and other nutrients, etc) that they are missing from dairy by eating other foods...?

i can't stand the taste of whole milk, so sticking with nonfat milk, but eat butter instead of margarine, regular salad dressing instead of lowfat versions, and on the rare occasion that i drink soda, i avoid the diet ones. i tend to think they 1. taste better 2. have less "fake stuff" (aka less bad stuff) and 3. are not that much worse for you as long as you are eating them in moderation.

but again, those are just my own feelings, nothing based on personal research...so who knows!

Thanks for your replies ladies.

I think I'm going to opt for full fat dairy for a while but absolutely in moderation!

I'm not underweight but my BMI is a little on the low side (19 ca.). Maybe it's a good idea to opt for full fat for this reason too?

xx

That sounds a good approach Em :) Then you will get all the nutrition and none of the rubbish you might find in lower fat versions. x
