I did post about 'Home work ideas' a few weeks ago because I wanted to do it once Peanut was here but due to a huge fall in money coming in looks like the idea needs to come sooner.

I feel though even though I'm only 6 weeks away from Peanut being here I'd have a small 'client base' I did want to take whatever company product I went with into mum and baby groups etc.

Also worrying at the moment if when Peanut arrives which is before Christmas I'll not get the orders out (if I get any) and then fall behind.

A little bit of history. I did it when I was in college and working part time at night in the local pub and where I lived with parents Avon wasn't as big. I didn't have a huge 'client base'. I was paying more back to Avon then I was getting commission at the end of the selling months. I also was paying a lot of 'hidden fees' I suppose e.g. the Avon Local Leader didn't tell me I had to pay for the brochures or the 'samples'. Also when I left I needed to pay £130 to opt out of it. Then I had a debt letter a few weeks later saying brochure payments were outstanding!

I don't want to sound negative about it all because well established Avon Reps do well and enjoy it also round my area I've not seen an Avon book been posted though my door since we've moved in only Betterware. There is a lot of well probably 80% of the area is pensioners then the rest are small family units so got a mixed bag of potential clients?

When would be the best time to start?

Avon Reps? How much was the start up fee?

I'm itching to start any form of 'rep work' now but most people I've spoken to say wait till LO is here and go to baby groups  any small income would be very helpful at the moment

youve got to be careful which baby groups you go and which rep work you choose if you get what i mean. you need to see what type of mums go to what groups. me and lo live near you we go to lots of natural organic groups so mums there love neals yard and wouldnt buy avon where as other groups might not have heard of neals yard its sold in big department stores and might prefer avon ect. ive heard really bad things about avon so id be careful. do you drive? have you thought about doing next deliveries or catoluge del

At the moment can't afford a car and wanted to do the 'work from home' idea just to spend time with LO and not have them in the car. With a few posts (I posted this Avon thread on nearly every link oooops - ask you said you'd replied on here) and most of the ladies have said a no no to doing it again!

I stopped doing Avon when I moved the other month. I hadnt been doing it for that long anyway. I started around September last year and made a good profit just before christmas as that is when you will sell the most. They have lots of offers on so people buy more to get the free gifts etc...

I only actually had 15 customers which were mainly in my street and the streets behind, this is only because I wanted to keep it small to start off with and just did friends and family really. You are given your local area so don't need a car. I don't have a car and had no problem with this. Fair enough if you had to deliver a big order by yourself then you would probably have to do it in more than one trip, but the houses won't be far from your own.

A lot of the people were buying christmas presents for friends and family so they were buying something every campaign.

If you get in touch with your local sales leader it shouldnt cost you anything to set up. I had to pay nothing and got the books for my first campaign free - so if no one ordered I wasnt losing anything.

My sales leader was a friend of mine and just came round with the contract, books etc... for me.

I'd say starting before christmas is ideal, if you start just after I found (and my friends found) that people werent ordering anything as they had everything from christmas.

If you wanted to do it I'd say now, just before christmas is ideal! xxx
