Babies that were due in may 2012

kwood - ohh no! good luck for when that happens :)

waves - lovely photos! and wow that sound way cool that they entertain themselves! I managed to find time to fold about 5 loads of washing (we had a huge pile waiting to be folded) and even though it was 15 minutes of quiet it was just pure bliss.
I think you are holding it together pretty well for having a colicky baby, and I really hope things get better for you soon.

We tested Aria on cows milk formula yesterday in the end and took it her it after a few feeds, she congested up pretty bad and is snuffly again like she has a cold. She also would not settle, she didn't cry or anything but just stayed awake for maybe 3 hours straight possibly longer which was unusual for her.
Though she didn't cry, she didn't look very comfortable and spilt slightly more than usual but no vomiting. I don't know whether to keep trying her on it and see if she starts vomiting or keep her off.
I think cos her nose got quite snuffly thats probably a sign to keep her off though, hope thats enough for my doctor to refer us to a pediatrician.

Well I had to get put on Zoloft for PND so I wouldn't say I'm doing that well but thanks!

Personally I'd keep her off the milk-based stuff. I hope you can be referred to a ped. Weird you need a referral because here they automatically go to a pediatrician from birth.

Waves, Hannah is so cute! Good thing she is because she sounds like a demon! I think you are holding up far better than I would. Gabe had nights where he seems a bit colicky, but its only a night or 2 and I'm frustrated, and threatening to send him back...I couldn't do it for weeks...

Zephyr, I agree with waves, is keep her of the milk based stuff until you see a peds specialist. Hopefully, they can give you an answer...

Gabe is going to be 6 weeks on Monday. I keep getting asked if he is smiling at us yet. He is not, he is a very serious baby, but now I'm worried that he should be smiling at this point...anyone know if its normal for him to not be smiling yet?

Yeah my doc needed me to try the milk before he could refer me to one to make sure it was more than just reflux :/ The babies get checked over by a pediatrician at hospital but unless your midwife or doctor refers you to one we dont see them here.
Aria spent most of the day puking everywhere, I never tried the milk again after last night so I'm confused as to why it would take so long for her to start puking. Either way I feel satisfied now knowing we made the right choice taking her off it and I have some feedback for my doctor on Tuesday yay :D

I managed to get my son to daycare! all by myself! I have now worked out a way to do it so that Max doesn't scream lots and I can take both babies in and hold my sons hand!

Waves - sorry to hear about your PND, I hope you have lots of support to help you through it :) I still think regardless of whether you needed medication or not you are doing well. What you are doing is hard work! It'll get better :)

bumpin - Max smiles away heaps but Aria still doesn't really smile all that much. Babies are all different so there's probably nothing to worry about, he will be smiling soon!!

I think the milestone for smiling is by 2 months or so... at 6 weeks I wouldn't be really concerned about it.

Bumpin - I wouldn't worry, babies don't all meet milestones at the same time. Gabe may sit uo, stand, talk etc sooner than other babies or he may not, try not to worry. We are still not sure if Sam is smiling socially or if they are still gas smiles, either way I'm happy to see them.

Those of you who are bottle feeding, what bottles do you use? I have playtex drop-ins and my mom things because he has an incorrect latch that I should find those old-school flat nipples that are latex and have a square nipple on the end... I found them on ebay but they are super expensive because they are so hard to find! And I have a latex allergy so not sure if he would but I would hate him to be allergic and his mouth get a rash or anything.

My son has problems with the round ones (latching problems as well) so we changed to the Nuk bottles which have the flat ends. They are German but not sure if you can find them in the U.S. They come with a silicone teat.

I just found their u.s website so you might get them somewhere.

Front page updated!!

Waves you are doing fantastic. You've acknowledged that you were struggling and you got help. Thats the best you could do!! Well done and just take every day as it comes. It will get easier. :hugs:

Zephyr I'm glad you now know for sure what is causing aria's problems. Hope the referral comes through soon and you can get help for that! I always stop and think about you when I think I can't cope with Ashlynn. You have two and are doing a superb job! I admire you! Twins must be so so hard!!

Ashlynn was a bit fussy yesterday... Luckily OH came home early so he took her and she settled for a bit and I managed to get a few bits done around the house. She seems a bit better today. She slept better last night as well which really helped me! She goes about 4 hours at night time now so I'm really proud of her!!

Thanks so much :)

Aw thanks! Hahaha that's the only thing keeping me somewhat sane - she's adorable so I can't stay mad for too long. She's been with my Mom the last 2 nights and is staying there again tonight and she's having issues with her now. I had 2 really good days before she went to my Mom's so I hope she's not reverted back to the bad days. We'll see.

We use Tommee Tippee bottles. They're the only ones she'll take.

Thanks dear :)

Kendra I use the tommee tippee bottles as well. I have a few avent ones as well that I've started using and Ashlynn goes well between the two different ones.

I bought an Avent to try yesterday, he still makes the clicking sounds and not latching correctly. I have never even seen a Tommy Tippee bottle before.

Tommee Tippee bottles. They're supposed to be a lot like the breast. She won't take any bottle that doesn't have a wide-neck/nipple.

We used to have MAM ones (self sterilising ones with the silk teats), and Eddy liked them, but they leaked like crazy and we didn't have a good method for re=heating either, so we bought a set of boots own wide neck ones and Eddy has got on really well. We went up to medium flow earlier in the week as it was taking 30mins to drink 4-5oz - now he takes 15 mins tops lol. They have a really standard teat shape, and Earl had pretty much the same ones (mothercare own ones).

How's everyone doing?? Been quiet in here.

We're struggling along at the moment. Evie was bf, but she only gained 1oz in 9 days, so have been giving her formula as well now. She was weighed on Tues, and then I took her to get weighed on Fri, she'd had about 9oz of formula in the past 2 days, and she'd gained 40z :) She is now 17days old, but still hasn't gained back all the weight she lost :(

I'm still determined to get her back onto exclusively breastfeeding, but its so hard, because she has never latched properly, and she bites :( We've been going to breastfeeding support, but she always acts like a little angel when we get there, and latches perfectly the whole time!
I'm going to buy a decent breast pump and see if I can express milk for her instead, as I was so sleep deprived, she wouldn't sleep for longer than 40 mins some nights! I could feel myself starting to resent her, so I sent my OH to buy her formula, and since then, I've found it so much easier to love her. She's starting to slow down on the pooping too, which worried me!

My OH has gone back to work now, so am on my own with her in the days, which I'm finding quite hard :(

Hope everyone else is getting on a bit better!!

Luci it gets easier on your own... The first week was the hardest for me. I exclusively pump and am alot less stressed than I was when I was breastfeeding. Ashlynn wouldn't/can't latch coz of her tongue tie and since I started expressing we're all alot happier!! It is time consuming but so worth it. :) just keep strong and once you and LO are happy and healthy that's what matters.

Anti- how do you exclusively pump? I mentioned it in passing to the HV, but she basically tried to put me off by saying it was hard. I'd rather do that than switch to FF. I feel like I'll get flamed for saying this, but as much as I want Evie to get the benefits of my milk, I'm really not enjoying breastfeeding :(
