Hi all!

Been to see HV this morning to get my 13 week old daughter Madeline weighed to be told again, and quite snottily, that she is gaining too much weight! She is now 14lb 7oz.

She doesn't look overly big at all...chubby cheeks but that's about it! She has got me a little worried, what did your babies weigh at this age??

Madeline was born 2 weeks early (induced) at 6lbs but is a very hungry little thing!

Thanks!!! xx

What a load of crap - god I have hv's like that. If it makes you feel better my LO is 14 weeks and weighs 15.5lb so I wouldn't worry about it at all.
xx

sorry - that should be hate not have....grrrr stupid baby brain!!

Pretty certain that Chase was around that weight at that stage! Don't let your HV get to you!

Thanks - personally I can't stand the woman anyway! haha. She just points at the chart in the red book thing, grrr!

The thing is Madeline is a greedy little lady so asked HV about maybe giving her a little bit of baby rice once a day (people have been suggesting this to me) and she just snapped that I am not to give her anything until 6 months and that I don't want her putting on more weight.

Anyone introduced a little baby rice at this age or is it a major no no??

x

...Rach321 - that does make me feel better thanks! x

ok, I can compare exactly, I had a baby girl, induced 2 weeks early weighing 6lb 12oz at birth. At 12 weeks she was 14lb 14.5oz and at 16 weeks 16lb 3oz.

Ignore your HV hun, sounds like madeline is doing great.

Incidentally, Chloe didnt start solids til just before 6 months

I can kinda compare, Patrick was born two weeks early (he just came) and was 6lb14oz born hes only 8 week now and last week he was 11lb5oz....i also got told hes putting on weight too fast...but i dont give a shit lol hes not fat and there is no way im gonna leave him hungry! Balls to HV as long as baby is healthy and happy then pffffffffffffft!

Tyler was born a week early and was 8lb 6oz . At 9 weeks old he weighed 12lb 12oz so at 13 weeks im expecting him to be more that 14lb!! i wouldnt worry hun!! x x

how tall is she~? I was told Chloe was too heavy until they realised how bloody tall she is!

Thanks everyone - why are HV's such arses?! haha. When I was pregnant they were saying she was too small & now is too big!
Think I am going to try a little baby rice, she might not even take it - we'll see.....

well they never told me measurements when she was born or anything - she just looks in proportion really...and very cute! :)

Don't listen to them. What are you going to do, not feed your baby when they are screaming and crying to be fed? As long as your baby is happy, that's all that matters.

bloody hv's! i was told the same with my maddilynne! (great name btw ;)) she was a hungry baby and put on weight quicker at the beginning. we switched to hungry baby formula which was fab, but i did have a row with our hv and told her what i thought of her bad attitude :blush:x

back at ya - love the name! haha.
I am close to having words with my HV, other than the weight thing Madeline had a little dribble rash on her chin...I asked what to put on it & she responded with "take her dummy off her" - how helpful.

Thanks - personally I can't stand the woman anyway! haha. She just points at the chart in the red book thing, grrr!

Your HV sounds like an idiot. But yeah solids before 6 months isn't good. Especially at 13 weeks. It can hurt their tummies and cause problems when they are older.

I dont understand these HV people one min your LO is gaining to much next min not enough ..do they expect babies to be exactly like the book says lol

at 12 weeks Harrywas 14lbs 12 oz and was 9kbs at birth. He is on 91st percentile line for height and weight. My HV says he is thriving. I wouldn't worry about her weight, she sounds perfect.

I would avoid baby rice tho til at least 17 weeks as their stomachs can't cope with digestion of food any earlier than that. Try hungrier babies formula if you think she needs more feed.

I haven't seen my HV since my baby was about 6 weeks. When I go to have her weighed they always ask me if I want to see a HV as well but I don't see the point. TBH they don't seem to know much. On the couple of occasions she did come round she just told me a load of stuff I already knew!
