My 5 week old baby had a high temperature in the night last night. By this morning the temperature was back to normal again. He seems to be sleeping a lot today and is very fussy when he is awake, but he seems fine in all other ways. I'm wondering whether it is linked to the high temperature.

Has anyone else's baby ever had a high temperature for seemingly no reason?

How high was the temperature? I would probably get checked out just incase due to baby being so young

If he's a bit grumpy, you should probably take him in. Might be an ear infection bothering him or something.

how high was it? It's probably something and nothing but I would take him to be checked x

if it was over 38 degree celcius then baby needs checked out :hugs:

He still isn't himself and his temp was up to 38.5 last night. Waiting for the duty doctor to call me back with an appointment and I will take him in today. I hate seeing him like this, he's crying all the time unless he's asleep or in his swing :(

:hugs: i hope its just a little bug hun. fx they call you back quickly :hugs:

My ds2 had a high temperature but seemed fine in all other respects when he was about 4 weeks old. As it was out of hours we got sent to hospital for monitoring. It literally turned out to be nothing but the duty doctor took it really seriously so I'd definitely push to get your Lo seen. I'm sure it's nothing and hope lo is back to normal soon x x

The doctor thinks James has a virus and said his throat is inflamed. She has prescribed some calpol and said based on his age and weight he can have 1.25ml every 8 hours.

She gave me a cup to get a urine sample from him and drop it back off at the reception so they can test if he has a water infection. So wish me luck with that!

the wee sample should be easy hun. just give him a feed and then strip him down. Sit him on your knee so hes forward a bit and place his willy and ball sack inside the cup. If its one of those foil ones you can shape it so it sits better. We've had to do loads of samples with Rohan and thats the easiest way ive found to do it xx

Thanks hun, finally managed it! :) They said they're sending it off to a lab and we will get the results on Wednesday xx

Wow that's a while! They should be able to dip it at the surgery to see if it shows infection or not. 48 hours for a culture to grow and show any bacteria. I hate weekends for delaying things, it's ridiculous xx

He seems better today thank you and his temperature is down to 37.5 now :)
