hi all

i have been looking at baby monitors and i am really confused as to what type to get for my twins. can anyone tell me what they have used, bought or are going to buy and why?

thanks x

What are you looking for specifically? Regular monitor, or video?

We have a regular monitor with 2 receivers, and we keep one in the bedroom and one downstairs. Works fine for us. My brother & his wife got a video monitor, they used it when their kid was very young but otherwise use it for mostly the audio.

i thought probably a movement or video monitor as i was concerned if i only had a sound one i wouldn't know they were both ok?

We have tommee tippee movement monitors - they are fab!!!! They have breathing pads (look a bit like a mouse mat) that you put under the mattress and you have two channels so you can put one on channel 1 and one on channel 2 and you get no interference at all. They are really good as you can adjust the sensitivity so when they get bigger and move around the cot you can set the sensitively to maximum so you dont get alarms going off when they move off the pads.

They are like angelcare but half the price!!! I think the newer model has a temp on it too x

Hmmmm ok I confess the boys are 20 months tomorrow and I still use them!

this is the newer model of the one we have and I just saw this when I googled for them

Get £10 Off £75 - Use Code TDX-MNGK - from Tesco direct

ps I got mine from ebay though brand new and boxed but loads cheaper xx

RE: Sound monitors, you'll learn to quickly recognize who is crying. I loved saying, "Oh, it's Gabby" when people were around. They were amazed that I could tell the difference.

But Vicky's monitors sound lovely!

We have just a regular monitor and I know exactly which one is crying!!
I think the video ones etc can make you a bit too paranoid, but just go with whatever is going to help you relax and stay happy.

hi vicky

thnaks very much for this - it sounds like what i am looking for. so did you buy 2 of these sets and then tune them into one handset?

i was not so much worried about not recognising the crying as i agree that would be easier once used to it but i know my firends like to hear their baby breathing at night but i don't think i would be able to tell if they both were at the same time.

thanks

AfrAid not two sets and two handsets are needed.

I too wanted the peace of mind and these really did the trick for me as they sound an alarm if no breath or movement is detected for 20 seconds xxx

just in case anyone else is interested in this i got two of the tommee tippee sound and movement monitors they are reduced at mothercare just now from £90 somethin each to £66 each.

with a 10% off code from vouher codes website i got both for £119.99.

v. pleased with that. x

We have the angelcare monitors with the movement sensor mat. They are fab- tell you the temperature and provide me with lots of reassurance- honestly don't know how i would have slept without them. Still using them now and have no plans to stop- the girls are 14 months and have one each in their cots xxx

We use the tommee tippee movement mats too and would hly recommend. You need to have them in separate cots tho.
The girls are almost 10 months and hubby wants to stop using them but i still like the extra reassurance
Not sure what i'll use when the third baby arrives tho as there is only two channels lol

I was looking at the Angelcare Deluxe Plus that has two mats. It looks like they are supposed to both go on one crib. Did you get this one? I didn't want to spend the money to buy two sets.

It looks like the Tommee Tippee one is popular and looks nice, but I don't think I can register for it in the US. Everything I found advertising it is based out of the UK or Australia.

Any other suggestions?

is there any issue with using sensor mats on a cot with slats as a base. i know the mat goes under the mattress but read a review on having problems with a slatted cot? presume they work with any mattress as we have organic ones (Organic latex, coir and lambswool) xx

We have the angelcare monitors and have no plans to stop using them any time soon either. You'll need two sets so a mat each, parent unit each and child unit each as it says this in the instructions. I got the normal model but the deluxe plus with the two mats is intended to be used in one cot which would be useful when they are older as they roll around loads and squish up in the corner which sometimes sets off a false alarm!

I've always put a large piece of wood over the slats as, again, this is advised in the instruction manual.

X

Thanks for the info Helen. I was really hoping to avoid buying two. I wonder how else I can figure this out. I know I don't NEED a movement monitor, but I read something that said that premies have a higher chance of SIDS. I don't know how true this is, but I feel like I should be doing everything to make sure things go well. Has anyone else heard this? Or does anyone else have opinions about movement monitor vs no movement monitor?

I just got a simple one with a night light :) my apartment is not very big though, their bedroom is right next to ours

I don't think they are actually needed but they certainly give you piece of mind and stop you checking on them every two seconds - they've worked well for us, esp since we moved to an upstairs/downstairs house.

I'm gonna have the problem shortly of needing three at the same time, and the TT ones we have only have two radio channels so I might end up with 2 TT and 1 angelcare lol
