Anyone had experiance giving baby rice as early as 2 months??? i know its 4 months as a rule and folk say "digestion not strong enough" but then i read that some people have been putting in milk / 1x on a spoon from a few weeks old???? any clues xxx:shrug:

Some people do this because there's an idea that goes about which suggests that a spoonful of baby rice in a bottle will help the baby sleep longer.

The problem with this is that milk has far more calories than baby rice. But baby rice is much "bulkier". So baby rice fills up a baby's stomach and they don't have enough room to take on all the milk they need. They feel fuller for a while, but their body will still be saying "Need more calories!" because they haven't had enough milk. So they'll probably still wake up anyway. Plus the issue with their digestive system not being ready to handle solids.

All a baby needs at 2 months is milk, whether it's formula or breastmilk.

We were instructed to put baby cereal in his bottle on his really reflux-y days to help keep the formula down. I typically only do it on his afternoon and evening bottles bc that is when he really struggled with the reflux. Have not noticed it filling him up more though...

This article explains exactly why giving solids so early isn't a good idea, health wise

But also putting it in the bottle can be a choking hazard. It use to be a really common recommendation over here, not so much anymore, unless your baby has reflux but we now have formula that has rice starch in it that thickens it that is a safer alternative if needed. It's also been shown that it's a myth that it helps them sleep better :) They really need nothing other than milk at that age

ive had the "oh put some cereal or rice in his bottle" speech from mil and ail. i asked the hv about this and she said no and insinuated it was force feeding of sorts but didnt really say much more. i got the look of death when i explained this to mil and ail :haha:

Apparently I was on baby rice at 8 weeks old (i now have some stomach probs but not sure if there is a link) and I had a really hungry baby who had colic.

I waited until 6 months and just kept her on milk. She didn't sleep through until she was ready so not really to do with hunger.

Thicker milk doesn't necessarily mean they are fuller
