When is your baby considered a toddler? 12 months? When they walk? I've read several different things and am unsure what's correct. She'll be 1 June 13th. I'm not ready for her to not be considered a baby anymore!!!! :(

I started referring to DS as a toddler when he started walking really well. It was so hard when he wasn't a baby anymore! I think I cried every time he stopped doing "baby things."

I think it's when they start walking, but to be honest I still say to almost 3 yr old 'cone here baby boy' etc although his response is I'm a big boy mummy!! They will always be our babies whatever age and they are still so reliant on you at especially at one yr old and couldn't do without you!

I think officially it's considered to be 13 months but can't remember where I read that.

My daughter started walking at 10 months and can practically run now but I'm still not ready to call her a toddler! She still seems like a baby to me. I guess when it's your second you see them as little for longer.

My almost 2 year old is still my baby :-) :-) she started toddling at 14 months but was still very much a baby. Id say I accepted her as a toddler at around 18 months x

My DD was a baby until her little brother was born and then I realised how grown up she actually was!

I'd go with when you feel ready to call the transition! I started referring to her as a toddler after her first birthday, just because she was so mobile and definitely not acting like my little baby anymore. I swear they grow up overnight.

I would say their first birthday.. but I still call my 9 year old my baby ;)

I think I started calling Violet a toddler around a year, but the older baby stage is so much different from the little baby stage that it felt like the 8 or 9 months to a year was a bit of a transitionary phase. I did start going on the toddler boards around 10 or 11 months as the baby boards didn't seem to applicable, even if Violet was clearly not a toddler yet.

Thanks all!!!! So looks like its @ 1 year. Boo!!! I say when she walks. Lol. Which could be in a month or two. She will always be my baby no matter what though. She is my only child and will be my only. So definitely sad to see the baby stage go away...but happy at the same time that she is growing up healthy. :)

Oh and is the toddler and pre school the only "toddler" page on here? That sooo broad. wish we had a toddler only page lol. The baby page is so young! :)

Around a year I would say. My two eldest walked at 10&9 months, but although they weee toddling, they seemed to grow up a lot and learn so many new things around the year mark. They were definitely no longer babies.

The toddlee & preschool board is great, it covers alot but everyone in there is always more than willing to Offer advice :)

I said to my oh that I will stop referring to my daughter as our baby when she goes to school.....so 5 I guess. Eeeek! :haha:

Well they are classed as an infant till age 2 then a child from 2+. I always class a toddler from walking but you could have a 13m old whos talking and clearly not a baby who doesnt walk and a 13m old whos walking but is still quite baby in other ways if you know what I mean? I dont think theres a set age, just when you feel they are no longer a baby. At my nursery they move from babies to toddlers room between 14 & 20 months old.

The daycares here label "toddler" rates starting at 18 months. Infant before that. I feel it's when they start walking well and saying a few things.

neither of my boys walked before their 1st bday, so when they turned 12 months, I called them toddlers who can't toddle yet. :haha:
