Tristan is pretty much 8 months old now and I am still breastfeeding him. I have been weaning him since he was 5 1/2 months and have gradually been cutting down his breast feeds a day. He currently gets about three breast feeds a day.

The thing is, he seems to be getting less and less interested in the breast feeding. The morning one he does still take quite a lot of milk, the afternoon one, he feeds for a couple of minutes and that is it and the before bed feed he feeds a bit before he drops off to sleep. Could he be self-weaning off the breast?

I am a bit concerned that he is getting enough milk a day - he is putting on weight (he is about 20 lbs now) and is eating a lot during the day and drinking lots of water, but I read that up until a year old, milk (breast or formula) should be their main drink.

What is your advice on this?

We are pretty much the same here Paula. A good feed both sides in the morning then that's it till 3pm BF wise. I dont think she'd bother if I didnt offer. Then a fairly short feed and bed. I actually got her weighed today and the HV said that sounds fine. They should be having approx a pint of BM or formula a day at this point. Hebe lost 3 oz a couple of weeks ago after we reverted back to a direct BF before bed as opposed to between 9 and 13 oz of EBM or formula (alternate days). I think she was drinking it for the sake of it TBH as she settles just as well with a relatively short BF.
:D

I can't really offer any advice as Poppy is still quite into her milk. Is your HV helpful? Maybe she could offer some advice? x

that sounds like whats happened with us. I gave up offering the lunch time one because it just wasn't worth the prep in sitting down with her anymore as she literally take the foremilk and that be it. now i offer 3 times a day, breakfast, dinner (tea) time and bedtime. My daughter's starting to loose interest in the tea time one aswell now  I do worry a bit aswell though that she isn't getting enough milk.

Hannah's FF of course but she's weaned herself off of most of her bottles, she just prefers her solids it seems
