So bored of just looking at general baby clothes!! I've decided to get 'baby's coming home from hospital' outfit!! My question is this:

It'll be January when he's born so what will I need besides this sleepsuit (undergarments, blankets etc)?? Would you get the matching hat too?? Bearing in mind I have a thing for baby hats and when I counted up I have 12 in 0-3 months already!!!!

This is the babygro thing:

And hat:

I'd also get a snowsuit but that's me personally! It'll be pretty cold in nov! Love the gro and matching hat :) xx

That outfit is so cool! Think a snowsuit could be in order too :)

I have already bought this snowsuit (see below) but wondered if he'd need anything else? Will he still be able to go into the carseat with the snowsuit on? I've heard you can't.......... but have no previous experience so am at a loss!!

snow suit will be fine in car seat just sit next to lo to make sure not overheating in car.

long sleeved vest for under outfit and socks.
generally speaking, babies need a layer more than what you are wearing

babies loose most heat through head so def hats.x

I would say a bodysuit underneath the sleepsuit (either short-sleeved or sleeveless - long sleeved might be a bit of a pain to get on when you're not practised!) and a snow suit over it, plus a hat (although the snowsuit may have a hood). If it's a particularly cold day you could also put a blanket over him while you're walking to the car. This is what I'll be doing - I'm due on 9th January and it was minus 20 here last year!

For the hospital, I'll just be taking a few plain bodysuits and sleepsuits, and a soft cellular blanket - I expect the hospital will be very warm so he won't need many layers. I've bought both newborn and tiny-baby sized stuff, because I'm not sure how big he'll be. Newborn does up to 10lb so it could be swimming on him, but tiny baby does up to 7.5lb. DH and I were both small babies so he'll probably fit into them, but they were dirt cheap from Asda so if he's too big I'll just leave them at the hospital for other mums.

Yeah, we're predicted some really cold weather and snow this year again. Not -20 lol but below freezing at least. The newborns I've seen over here have done up to 8/9lb and I was 9lb12 when I was born!!! Oh doesn't know anything about his birth (no, he was not adopted lol, his parents are still very much together and we see them often - he's just a man and has no interest of these details!!). So I've been buying mostly 0-3months.

With dd I found snowsuits to be massive and she drowned in a newborn one even tho she was 7lb 6! She ended up comin home with vest, babygro, cardy hat and mitts! So I'd take a cardy as reserve incase snow suit doesn't fit or is not comfy for baby! x

i bought jake a hat but he didnt wear it. it was july though!
i got him a really cute outfit which had like 8 things in it from mothercare.

Coming home I would use blankets instead of a snow suit, snow suits generally are harder to get in the carseat and blankets you can take one off if car is too hot. xx

I'd go for lons sleeve vest underneath and socks. And a jumper for on top. And a coat to take off when you are in the car and replace with blankets. The snowsuit shouldn't be worn in the carseat when in the car as in a crash the suit compresses and means the baby is not tight enough in the seat.

Surely a cardigan isn't nearly as warm as a snowsuit though? But really, all we have to do is get him from the door of the hospital to the car and then from the car to the lift once home.......

So many decisions

I'm pregnant for the third time, and all of my babies have been born in the cold months (November, March, and now January). I suggest getting a car seat cover that the baby sits on top of, and has a cover to go over the baby. It's something that you can definitely buy second hand, but it's really helpful. I got a pink one like this yesterday for $2.

Your outfit looks sweet! My baby wil be wearing the same outfit her sister and brother wore home from the hospital.

I plan on using a hat for my son but not just because of it being in Jan but because my dh gets a tad freaked out by the soft spot on the head :haha: I figure if he can't see it then he'll forget it's there. :D

As for the snowsuit I can't help you there. It doesn't get near that cold here and he would only be outside to and from the car so it wouldn't be needed as dh would heat up the car before we left.

I'm due on the 24th of january. My coming home outfit is a short sleeved vest a superbaby babygro :D and a feecy snowsuit and fluffy hat with ear flaps :D I'm also taking a think fleecy blanket and thick fleecy blanket incase I end up using a cardigan or something. However I also have a cosy toes for my car seat ahhh descions! I also need to get an outfit in 0-3 just incase. For the hospital I'm taking a mixture of newborn firstsize and 0-3 months vests and babygros and hats :D

Youll defintely need a hat. :) But no snowsuit in the car seat. If you were to get into an accident the fabric can compress and the baby could fly out. I did that for a while, and my pediatrician told me that its a big no-no. Youll need to dress the baby warmly, socks, maybe booties and a hat... then bring lots of warm blankies to cover your lo in in the car.
