babywearing/carrier question

i want to try baby wearing as i will have a 3.5 yr old and a 22mo old when this baby is born so hands free is really appealing to me. i was wondering what type of carriers everyone would recommend. i'm thinking a wrap would be the best. i also was looking into making my own, has anyone tried that? if so what types of fabrics do you recommend and do you have any tips for making them. basically i was hoping for some feed back on types of carriers and fabrics. thanks

I think for a newborn a Moby wrap or similar would be good, then a mei tai for an older baby
