Bassinet or something else?

So my hubby and I a few weeks back found out we are going to have a baby weeee! We area already on the third month of the first trimester and time is flying already it seems

Anyways, we were just perusing around the baby area at some stores here where I live, and I had a question...

Bassinets are rather pricey, and my mother told me, that when my sister, brother and I were all little we barely even lasted in a bassinet and grew out of it in a few months. So i'm wondering if there is something else we can get in place of a bassinet that will last longer ?

(i'm not saying i'm not willing to dish out the cash for our baby if it's the best or only option, but if we can save a little money and pick something that is going to last longer, than i'm all for it)

We bought a playard that has a Bassinet for babies under 15 lbs, so it has 2 uses.

We have a bassinet and a cot. She's going into the cot really soon because of how long she is, but she is nearly 4 months
