Ok, I have read on here several times now that Docs are telling people that BBT charting/temping is pointless and not accurate? Is it true? Are we all wasting time here? Could BBT be wrong?
Just curious since I have read it a couple times already. Wondering what everyone thinks and has experienced with it.

When i was TTc my Lo my doc said to temp to se if i get a rise to say i o'd then go in for blood work done to back it up and it has allways worked for me. If you are not a sleep at such a time and wake up same time sort of person then it wouldnt work

It is pretty darn accurate, if not 100% if done right. Reason being progesterone rises after ovulation, which will increase your basal body temperature. I don't think it's just a "coincidence" that we get pos opks, then a sustained temp rise for the same amount of days afterwards before we get AF every single cycle- esp for those who are irregular. I've heard doctors say it's pointless for PREDICTING ovulation, which is very true & could maybe be what you've read? Most doctors highly recommend it as it helps them know their patients cycles better xx

I've been temping 6 months and it's been pretty darn accurate for me. Heck, my mom temped for each of her kids and had no problem having 5 of us. My aunt temped for both her boys (in conjunction with Clomid.)

Temping might not tell you when you're going to ovulate, but it definitely will tell you if you have. I always get an O dip, so for me it helps me know when I am O'ing as well. That with everything else I chart really does help me to know what's going on, whether any doctor believes me or not.

I'm really not a big fan of doctors and their opinions a lot of the time.

I agree so much. There are some AMAZING doctors out there, but some are right, excuse my language, dumbasses! I don't know how some get their masters.. I mean I'm just average, but seriously.. some doctors don't know what they are talking about sometimes.

Maybe it's just something about doctors and the whole reproduction thing. I've met tons of smart, well read, well educated folks in the medical field, but I swear- every time the conversation turns towards reproductive issues, even the most intelligent ones start babbling nonsense half the time.

OH and I have decided to go the midwife/homebirth route when we get back around to baby making again. (We're on a bit of a break as the wedding approaches.) As incompetent as some of the OB/GYN's I've met lately are, it seems the more constructive (and less ridiculously invasive) route.

Honestly, I'm betting that half the time, docs say that BBT doesn't work just so they can get us ladies to come in and submit to some crazy in office tests to figure out (for an arm and a leg) what a thermometer could have told us for free.

I agree with your post so much! I really never even thought that they tell women that just so they can shove medication or treatments down their throat so they can get more money. Sadly, a lot of people including doctors are like that :nope: Like testing for ovulation by bloods, they tell women to come in on CD21, even though they know the patient has longer than the standard 28 day cycle.. I mean come on now, obviously someone with a 35 day cycle, will not ov on CD14. I wonder if they just want them to come in more than once so they can make more money..

Betcha that's what it is! They know how crazy-brained us ladies can get when it comes to baby making. They're probably thinking they'll get a few more bucks, we'll get something new to worry about, and then they'll get to keep bringing us in. I swear- when I went in for my pre-TTC check-up earlier this year, I left the office feeling all kinds of shaken up. Heck, the doctor even had me convinced I needed to shedule a completely separate appointment just to bring in my pre-natal pills to have him approve! It took me a couple days to process, but I realized that half the stuff he'd talked about was probably just to freak me out and get me back in the office every other month!

Wow that is crazy! I can't believe he made you go through all that nonsense and worried you like that! There are some really great doctors out there that generally care for their patients and aren't money hungry.. but some really piss me off lol. :haha: Glad someone agrees with me! xx

I'm not saying it's not accurate, I just read it a few times as was curious as to what everyone was thinking and experiencing.
I see shifts in my bbt when I o.
I also do agree that most docs have no clue. They are not what they used to be. Now and days all they want to do is give you pills. It's all about money and that's a shame when it comes to someones health.
