Check with your health visitor if you can hire one.
I bought a manual pump with DS was a few days old and I have used it a lot since to help my increase my supply, also to pump extra for storing and I used it to pump through the pain when I had mastitis.

I since found out that I could have hired one (for free!) through my health visitor. She brought out out yesterday and it's a hospital grade electric pump.

So even if your pregnant and thinking about buying a pump, call your health visitor and see if they have them to hire out and save your self money as not everyone uses one.

They only have this in certain areas which have traditionally had low BF rates unfortunately :(. In this area the NHS rents out a hospital grade pump for similar rates to the NCT the only difference is there is no deposit the pumping kit is included in the price and you pay by the day not monthly xx

Thats why i said people should call their local health visitor first because like you said, it depends on the area which is a shame. At least there is other options out there instead of people buying one before baby comes as that seems to be a common question.

In my area you can buy a pump from the surestart centre at a discounted rate, so it's worth asking about this too :)

I'm guessing my area doesn't do this as my HV has known about me expressing exclusively since DS was a week old and I was never offered anything.

I would still call up if I was you because I exclusively expressed with my sn and was never offered anything yet they said this scheme has been going for about 5 years.

No harm in calling up and asking x

I'm deffo going to ask, would love a better quality pump next time (used a medela swing most recently) but reluctant to spend £250 on a good one in case I don't get along with it!
