I thought it might be cool to make a list of essential things needed by the time baby arrives. So far I have bought a cot and have picked a pram but not bought it yet.

Anyone care to help me make a list?

Oh I've loads to buy! :)

Clothes
Moses basket+Stand
Bits for me
Changing bag
Toiletries
Baby bath
Bedding

Probably lots more I forgot to list, but got ages yet so not too worried.

I haven't bought a single thing yet, but have all of dd2s stuff so we don't actually need to buy a lot! But... The main things we do need to but are:

Double pram (no idea what one yet!)
Changing bag big enough for 2
New bed for dd1 (so we can do a bed swap and this way makes more sense than buying a new cot.)
Basic vests/babygros (I like to buy these new as they get worn so often!)

This is what I would consider essentials for the first few months:

Bodysuits (vests) short-sleeved in 0-3 months (I'd skip newborn and only buy them if you end up having a small baby - they grow so quick!) (lots!)

Sleepsuits in 0-3 months (lots!) - in the beginning most babies wear these all day and all night. Babies also tend to have large blow-outs and you can go through several sleepsuits and bodysuits per day!

Blankets for leaving the house (lightweight and thicker) or some sort of jacket/padded suit (weather dependent).

Fitted sheets for cot (several as you might need to change the sheets often if baby leaks through) and a waterproof mattress cover.

Either Sleeping Bags or sheets and blankets

If you're breastfeeding: breast pads, lansinoh, nursing bras
If you're bottle feeding: Bottles, formula, steriliser

Something to go on the floor for tummy time (play mat or a soft blanket)

Muslins (lots and lots!)

A change mat and something to keep change supplies in (we used an old wooden box that I lined with fabric - we still use it to this day). We didn't have a change table with my son as we were limited by our budget and space. This time we're getting one and I'm so excited not to change this baby on a mat on the floor. It'll also be nice to start changing my son up high too, as with my increased size, I'm finding bending over him on the ground tricky!

Change bag - or any bag, just add your own change mat.

Car seat - Here in the UK you need one to leave the hospital (so the eponimous 'they' say). We found ours most useful for rocking baby during the day as we rarely went anywhere by car.

Somewhere to nap near you during the day - moses basket or carrycot from the pram

Hooded towels - They have such trouble maintaining a good temperature at first that they need to be warmed up after a bath.

What I would think of as useful, but not necessities:

If breastfeeding - Breast pump and bottles - I started expressing early last time to build up a good freezer stock as I was going back to work and my husband would be home with our son after 5 months.

Baby carrier or wrap - many always wear their babies, but if you plan to have a pram for most outings, a sling or wrap is still really useful for when you're nipping our quickly and you don't want to lug a pram around - or if your baby won't nap and you need to get things done round the house.

Baby bath or bath seat - Useful when they're tiny, but we stopped using ours after a month or so and just supported him by hand in shallow water

Baby monitor - We always had a movement sensor monitor due to my intense fears of SIDS, but if your baby is in the room next door then you probably don't need a monitor.

That's all I can think of for now. There's lots I've missed because I can't quite think of it just yet, I'm sure some other lovely ladies will add more!

I still need

Car seat
Cot sheets
Nappies

Everything else is just pretties that aren't essential

Oh yeah, I guess this baby's going to need stuff, isn't it? Oops.

I guess you've got to give us credit. We only just moved in to our new place 2 months ago so we're still finding our bearings.

But, seriously, we've bought barely anything.

The in-laws have apparently sent us a Moses basket which is on its way. Other than that, I also have breast pads and nursing bras - Perfect for the baby, no?

We only have a few things left on our list but I'm one of those overly prepared people so I went and got a couple checklists off the babies r us website and figured out what we needed and didn't and made sure we had all of that stuff :)

As of now the only things we still need/want:
-Swing
-Extra Boppy cover
-Extra nursing tanks, shirts, and bras
-Nursing cover (If I can find one I like)
-Wall shelf for his room so I can put his books up that we got at his baby shower

I haven't bought a thing. Only 16 weeks. But I'll be taking notes.

The essentials we have bought so far are:
Moses basket and stand
Cot
Travel system Inc car seat
Electric steriliser
Bottles
Electric breast pump
Bouncy chair

X

A bigger house!!
Get it on July 16 (24 weeks) then I can start proper nesting and sorting through my sons gear

I've still got moses basket and stetiliser from dd1 and have ordered my pram which is to be delivered on august 29th. I have got my bottles and have picked up some aldi nappies and wipes. I still need vests and sleep suits, changing bag, maybe dummies, a winter coat. And a hospital bag including my hospital items.

X

I've still got a fair bit to buy in my opinion!

Travel system (I'm getting the Mothercare Xpedior one but don't have the money for it right now!)

Sterilizer

Bottles

Cotbed Bedding

Swing/Bouncy Chair

One of those play mat things

And then little odds and sods like nappies, muslin cloths etc.

I'll be breastfeeding to begin with so will need breast pads, nursing bras and want my OH to be able to feed her so I will need a breast pump and a means of freezing it.

I need:

A car seat
A cot mattress
A stretchy sling
Cloth nappies (think I will give them a shot this time round)
A moses basket
Newborn clothes
Cotton Wool
A baby bath
Some sleeping bags

Have already got (from first baby):

A bouncy chair
A play gym
A cot
A pushchair (it is not much use for newborn but we used it for 6 months+ and last time we ended up using the sling every day and Joni just cried in the pram, so I am thinking this time I will just use a sling until the pushchair is good? If the sling doesn't work out I will cross that bridge when we get to it but not get a pram beforehand).
Bottles/steraliser (would like to breastfeed but glad they will be there as a back up).

If the baby is a girl she will be sorted for clothes, except 0-6 month sizes which I gave away. If it's a boy we will be starting from scratch.

I'm not going to buy anything until after the anomaly scan, just in case.

I still need a pram, a few more sleepsuits, crib sheets and blankets, Muslims squares, socks, scratch mins, hats, isofix base, breast pump.
For me I need a hospital bag with all my bits in there, big granny pants, breast pads, maternity pads, toiletries etc

Oh yeah I forgot about me. I need maternity pads. I still have my granny pants...in fact I still wear them

I can't stop shopping! I have bought so much for this baby and I still have a few months to go and a long list of other things I want to buy! It's becoming a problem!

With DS, we were only 20 and he was unplanned and we were both starving students in university so our friends and family threw us a huge baby shower and we literally got everything we needed.

This time it was planned and hubby and I both work good jobs and make 6 figures between the two of us so I feel like I'm trying to make up for not being able to buy anything last time. But I need to stop now!! Lol

The only big things we need are a car seat base for oh's car, a buggy board for the pram and a new wardrobe and chest of drawers for our older dd (baby is having hers) otherwise its just small things really: cotbed fitted sheets, changing mat, towels and bits and bobs for the hospital bag.

Clothes
Diapers
Wipes
Baby essentials (lotions, shampoos etc)
A carrier/sling (since I also have a 2 year old and want to include him into everything)
Accessories (bows)
A few pink blankets
Mattress for baby bed

Other than that I'm good, I kept everything from when I had my son but having a Gil this time so that's where the clothes come in lol

I have most things from my oldest 2 but I still need a bassinet and carseat and some more cloth diapers.

Last time we moved house at 38wks, son arrived at 39. We had a rocking crib, car seat, bed linen, clothes and nappies for the first week, bottles, steriliser, monitor plus a pram we stored at my mums. To be honest that was all we needed. The nursery furniture arrived a few weeks later and we got tons of presents (clothes, teddies etc.) when my son arrived. This time we will buy a buggy board, fresh bed linen, new mattress, new teats for bottles, nappies and we're upgrading our sling. We'll also need a newborn sleep suit, and some warmer newborn clothes but I won't buy them until a week or two before, once the winter baby clothes come in. Most of the things we need can wait until much further along.
