I work so it's slightly different but I earn like hardly anything, my OH earns a fairly decent wage but not brilliant and we didn't get the £500 grant either, was quite dissapointed.

Not sure if this will be of use to anyone but after going to town and then spending ages on the phone on hold, you can claim income support while at university, they just take into account how much student loan your getting as thats counted as your income. So if anyone was at uni, just ring the application line, they can do it all on the phone for you, and they'll be able to tell you how much you'll be entitled to :) x

Allier, that website you put about income support in Uni is for Northern Ireland. Its different in Scotland and England I'm afraid :(

https://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyT...tsAndOtherSupport/On_a_low_income/DG_10018708

Thats the website for scotland and england

Mel and Bump - I got told I wasn't allowed any form of support like that because I'm a full-time student in 'advanced education' meaning I will get an honours degree at the end :S
I'm so confused

I think it depends on how much student loan you'll get. Cause mines outside london and Ill be living at home, its less than 6000 a year Ill get, so I think thats lower than the income thing. Will you be a lone parent? Cause that was what made me eligable.

Good thread but can I just add about the Income support and claiming over the phone? You can only claim over the phone if your over 18, I had to speak to a young persons advisor in person and send a form off as I was unable to claim over the phone as i was only 16 x

Mel+Bump we used my student loan from this year as an estimate as I won't be getting more than that and its only £2800 or something - to pay for the halls and apparently its nothing :/
