I have not had my baby yet, but I am in the process of preparing! This will be my first child and my first time using cloth diapers. I purchased my cloth diapers from a local baby boutique that specializes in natural products. The owner sold me Best Bottom diaper covers and large inserts. I also purchased Grovia diapers with separate inserts- she recommended trying both to see what I like best. My issue is that I now have 12 large inserts for the Best Bottom diapers. I went on that diaper website and they apparently make different sized liners for newborns. So......I am wondering why someone very knowledgeable about cloth diapers would sell me large. Can I use large with a newborn? Has anyone tried this?

When I have time I am going to stop back into the store and ask, but for now I would like see if anyone has actual experience with this.

I haven't tried them but I would guess you can, just only popper the insert in at one end (I think they have snaps at both ends, don't they?) and fold the insert over at the other end. This would save you money having to buy different sized inserts but it won't be as trim. Other similar systems (like Flips) have OS inserts that you fold over at the end, in a OS cover.

I wouldn't, however, fully expect them to fit from newborn anyway, even if you have the newborn inserts. Most OS nappies only fit from around 4-8 weeks old because of the shape of newborn babies, regardless of their weight.

How many of each thing do you have? I would be a little worried that she sold you 12 inserts. It is common for retailers to push big packs of things on you because of course they want to sell stuff, but I think it's a bit unethical especially if they're promoting themselves as experts who will give proper advice. Personally, I would not buy more than one or two of anything, so maybe one or two covers in each type with a few inserts per cover, so maybe 2 covers and 6 inserts. The same would go for the GroVias.

I would recommend trying a few different systems too. You have hybrid/AI2 nappies there but there are also fitteds, flats, AIOs and pockets. Sometimes what works in theory for you doesn't in practice so I think it's worth trying one of each kind to make sure you're not missing something :) Preloved is a great way to try things cheaply.

Thank you for your input. I ended up getting 12 inserts and 4 best bottom shells and 6 shells and 12 grovia inserts so I would have enough for around 2 days. Maybe I could have done less to see if I liked them first, but at the time it sounded like a good idea. Hopefully I will like them and then it will not be money wasted!!!!

I do plan on stopping in to get the lady's rationale behind it. We do have disposable diapers for the first few weeks just in case they did not fit well at first (I was worried about that too).

I have the Best Bottom system and the large inserts are just now starting to fit my 6 month old daughter. She was in the small inserts the longest and mediums for about a month. The larges are good from about 16 pounds up.

In my opinion, I would not expect the larges to fit for quite a while.
