hi ladies im still in trimester three but i was wondering if any of you could advise me on the best brand of sleeping bags you've found that are good with a newborn i was hoping to buy one or two now to use when baby arrives also what are the best togs to go for? thanks

I might be wrong so am happy to be corrected but I don't think they are recommended for newborns. I think they say 3 months +.

Our daughter slept in an H&M sleep sack as a newborn (size 50-62, approximately 0-4 months). Love that sleep sack especially since it has a side zip. Just find it really practical and easy to get her in/out of.

We also put her in these half sleep sacks sometimes.. I'm really not sure the word in English. Kick bag? :

I think we used these more in the first weeks actually. Then she'd be in a short sleeve onesie and long sleeve shirt over it with pajama pants/socks (she was born in the beginning of winter).

I've read on B&B before that sleep sacks aren't recommended for newborns but as long as it's the right fit I don't see a problem. In the hospital my daughter was put in one after birth to sleep in and the midwife recommended for our daughter to sleep in them so here it's the norm I believe.

The tog system isn't used here, there are summer, winter and all year round sleep sacks no togs :p so I can't help much with that.

We used the half sleep sac for Phoebe as well for the first month or two. They were great because at night we would dress her in a long sleeve onesie with the half sleep sac and diaper changes were a breeze. From about 2 months we started using an IKEA one which was 2.5 tog.
Phoebe still sleeps in a sleeping bag and loves it.

The advice is not to use them until their head is too big to go through the hole once the shoulder straps are done up - can't risk them wriggling down into the bag and struggling to breathe.
I've only seen 0-6mth ones, have got one so far and hoping to get some more as pressies and will be getting some blankets for when baby is first born as unless he's really big he'll be too small for the ones I have.

Oh and tog rating depends in how warm your house is. Mine is due end October and I'll be keeping the house about 18-20C so will go for 2.5tog, by the time he's into the 6-12mth size it'll probably be summer so 1tog (+ blankets if we have any summer like this one!)

Edit - found the table for temp:
Room temperature and bedding guide
Room temperature Amount of bedding
24 degrees C / 75 degrees F or more Sheet only
21 degrees C / 70 degrees F Sheet plus one blanket, or a 1 tog sleeping bag
18 degrees C / 65 degrees F Sheet plus two layers of blanket, or a 2.5 tog sleeping bag
16 degrees C / 60 degrees F Sheet plus three layers of blanket, or a 2.5 tog sleeping bag plus a blanket
