I've been really stressed about money recently and how we're going to cope when baby is here. i'm 18 weeks pregnant and not working.
My husband works full time and earns £16250 a year.
all our money goes on the private rental of our 2 bedroom house, bills and food and hubby is always in his overdraft at the end of the month.
we're currently not entitled to any financial help and we'd hardly be entitled to anything when baby is here.

out of interest I went on the entitledto website and worked out what we'd get if Husband were to work part time - 16 hours a week
and it came out we'd be 3k better off a year, does this sound right??
this would solve our problems if so and i'd even be able to go back and do a course at college part time. someone tell me this sounds right?

Can u not get working tax credits?...your husband would need to apply...u should get something...

no we don't get it at the moment, as he is under 25 and I think he earns to much to be able to get it when baby is here. I qualify for absolutely nothing.

you need to be earning under 16050 to get anything substancial for tax credits.

Unfortunately for most, the benefits system does benefit those more who don't work! x

You probably would be better off if he works less, sad but true. My OH got laid off because of a bad back and we worked out if he looks for a full time job now we have brandon then we will only be £30 a week better off than we are now (he had so much trouble finding work anyway because he can't do the jos he has experience in)

We decided that we would rather go without the £30 and him be the one that stays home with brandon while i work 16 hours x

we made some calls to the tax credit people and with hubby working less it was confirmed we'd be a bit better off. how ridiculous? it doesn't make sense.

becareful with what they quote you on the website and over the phone mine has been out by 20 pound a week sometimes
and is still 5 a week off what tehy said
