Evening ladies, In keeping with the current advice on how to make babies formula feed up Ive been using cooled boiled water putting the powder in when he's ready for it etc... but has anyone else noticed how powdery the milk seems? Ive found if i use boiled water then cool it its a lot more smooth, just wondered what everyone else was doing, when i'm out n about and I have to use a cold bottle to put the powder in and its even worse you can see it all bitty round the inside of the bottle, i'm using SMA if it makes any difference x

I have noticed this aswell, I tried using cooled water and found that I could see small particles where as with boiled water the milk is smooth as you said! I have no idea why this happens though or if its a problem! X

You using boiled water then sapphire? i'm tempted to start doing that and cooling it after x

I used to do the same but he powder doesn't seem dissolve properly when you use cooled (room temp)water. I now make up my bottles in advance and store in the fridge. I've attached the link to the Department of Health notice (thanks to Fossey for this link) that says it is ok to do this but not ideal.
In the FAQ bit at the end they say not to add the formula to cool water because its the formula that is not sterile and if the water is below 70c it won't kill the bugs in the powder (I only wish my HV's had read this rather than recommending adding to cool water :dohh:)

(It's the guidance bit on safe preparation of infant formula)

Yeah some parents at my work gave us measured powder and room temp bottles, but the powder does not mix properly. Hence why soo many of us don't listen to the guidelines and make up with hot/warm water in advance.

I shouldn't imagine it being SMA is the prob, powder/sugar/etc wouldnt dissolve no matter

I make the milk with boiled water and cool down fast then pop in the fridge. My HV said that this is OK to do as long as you cool the bottles down quickly. However, she did say that you should always make your milk with boiled water as it needs to be over 70 degrees to kill any bacteria in the formula.

:saywhat: I just dont get it another case of the world gone mad!! thanks ladies I am gonna start making them up with boiling water and cool them down quick xx
