Just wondered if anyone else has this? I seem to be seeing black dots / light in my vision whenever I look at something bright. Doesn't seem to matter if i'm sitting / standing etc it's just whenever I look at something bright. Unfortunately, that goes for my computer screen too grr!

Do you think it's anything to worry about? I have my next midwife appt next thurs, and have been having these dot things for the last couple of weeks so I don't really want to bother my midwife if it's just another one of those pregnancy things we have to put up with... but at the same time i'm worrying myself about it :dohh:

I'm still feeling Roo move about loads, so I know he/she's alright :haha:

Hiya

I think this can sometimes be a sign of high/low blood pressure so it may be worth getting it checked out. x

i have this, i first noticed a black dot floating round in my vision when i was about 20 (10yrs ago) when i was driving. Then i noticed them more often.
Its nothing to worry about, theyre called floaters in your vision, i cant explain it very well, but if your eyes were made of skin, and the skin shed a little, this is what you are seeing (kinda of). Its a bit disturbing when you fist notice.

After a while your brain stops registering them, i hardly see them at all now, its a very rare occassion that i do notice!

I've been having the same thing as well. I haven't mentioned it to my midwife yet, I've been having it for the past couple months. I've also recently started having headaches that last for days, but I wonder if it's due to dehydration b/c when I drink loads of water it seems to disappear. And my blood pressure has been quite normal as well. I don't know if it's anything to worry about and like you I feel baby moving around lots. I have an appointment in a few weeks and I probably will bring it up then because better safe than sorry.

Do you think I should ring up and make an appt then? I really don't want to, that's not cause I don't want to see my doc but more like I can't be bothered with the aggro from work about taking time off to see my doctors. They keep moaning as I live 30 mins away from work so I need to leave quite early for a docs appt.

If any of that made sense LOL

Can you phone up and ask maybe, instead of actually going to the doctors?

I get lots of floaters in my vision - always have - but I think these are different to the spots/dots you see with high blood pressure etc. If you're feeling otherwise fine then maybe just phone up docs for advice?

Hi Louppey

There's another link to someone else discussing this a bit earlier in the year if it's any help. x

I would say always air on side of caution obviously as visiual disturbances are related to pre eclampsia etc but I have this also especially in bright light while my eyes are adjusting almost like the light is too bright for me and I see all kinds of crazy floaters!!!!! Its just the way that my eyes are, a lot of people have floaters in their eyes and its nothing to worry about x

Generally the spots that accompany pre-eclampsia are very light/bright in nature, some women describe them as flashing and alot of the women who experience vision disturbances as a result of pre-eclampsia also report blurry vision and sensitivity to light.... though in some individuals the spots can be darker....

And in case you're interested some other common signs of pre-eclampsia are epigastric/liver pain (felt deep under your ribs on your right side), a extremely bad headache that won't go away even with tylonal, extreme nausea and vomiting (which is new for you.... doesn't really classify as a symptom if you've had nausea every day of your pregnancy, extremely bad edema especially of the face (most women with edema do not have pre-eclampsia... but most women who have pre-eclampsia have edema).

Chances are though that it's not at all pregnancy related. The most likely explanation is that they are just normal floaters which are just small pieces of the vitreous of the eye which have detached and are now in your field of view. Most people will experience them at some time of their life and they tend to become more frequent the older you get. There's a rare risk that if large pieces of the vitreous come off they can tear the retina and cause retinal detachment but again that's rare and other symptoms would be present, eg vision loss or flashing.

There's also a few other eye conditions which can cause spots in the vision... I started having the problem 2 years ago.... first I was getting floaters which I was told were just normal floaters but then I started having episodes of blurry vision and seeing aura's in my right eye... I was given a big list of differential diagnosis and in the end it turned out that I have pars planitis which is an inflammation of the pars plana which was what was causing my floaters in the first place.

Hi! I'd def get it looked at. Best to be cautious when pregnant. It could be nothing but it could be blood pressure. xxxx

i get this quite a bit and did before i was pregnant i have always been really anaemic in all pregnancys so i think thats why i get it quite often

Thanks for your help everyone, with my doctors you have to ring up at 2pm to get an afternoon appt with a nurse so I think tomorrow I shall do just this and get an appt just to be checked over. Like everyone has said - it's better to be safe than sorry!!

Thankfully I am not in the office at all tomorrow as I am at a clients all day, and I know they won't give me grief for slipping off work early so I shall just get an appt towards the end of the day and go straight from there.

I know it seems ridiculous but I am fed up with the moans and groans from work colleagues/my boss when I need to leave early for a maternity related appt.
