I have a bladder infection right now and yesterday my urine was a dark orangy/red color which i believe was blood in my urine. today my pee looks back to normal but can still feel the infection. I had one faint test yesterday and two today. I have just read on a couple threads online that it can cause false positives. has anyone else experience this??

Im worried my tests are now false because of my bladder infection =(

i hope not :-/ i read that online too, but i also read online just as much that its not true, and surley if it was they would put it on the info leaflets with the pregnancy tests? xx

i never heard that....i always have a UTI when pregnant idk why...but I know from my bloods I am def. preggo, fx'd for u hun!

i have a UTI at the moment and I'm 3dpo. Did a test to see if your theory was correct - :bfn:

so fx'd for darker lines tomorrow, also make sure you get your infection treated asap x

i did go to the walk in clinic this morning...he took a test to find out if i had a bladder infection..and checked my stomach. he asked me if i had a family doctor and i said no. he told me that i need to get a family doctor so they can send me for a ultrasound. He would not do it. he told me this isnt high priority for their office so thats why hes not sending me for testing himself. I was so upset that he talked to me this way. I said this is not an emergency room which is where you go for emergencies...you go to a walk in clinic when you have things like this to get cleared up when you dont have a doctor. i was livid. He didnt give me my results either. I have been to this walk in clinic a few times over the years and never have i been treated this way. he could have simply gave me a prescription to get this fixed. now i have to deal with this infection on my own and its getting worse. I guess if it gets much more worse, i will have to go wait for hours at the emergency room where there should be more important emergency situations that they could be dealing with. grrr =P

on a happier note..thanks for the responses...i really hope its not true! apparently only if there is blood in the urine that it can cause a false possitive...which happens when the infection doesnt get treated properly.

You can go to any drugstore or chemist and buy a test for urinary tract/bladder infections if the clinic didn't give you results. You can also buy pills that help with UTIs and bladder infections that do not interfere with pregnancy. I read through the AZO leaflet (I had a UTI a few weeks ago) and it says that neither UTIs and bladder infections, nor the medication can cause false pregnancy test results. I find it odd that they say this as the medication stains your urine bright orange which I would think would interfere with tests...

I would buy a test at a drugstore (or Target, Walmart, anywhere really) to see if you do in fact have a bladder infection or a UTI. If you do and your symptoms haven't abated, I would buy the pills that help regardless of whether or not they can interfere with tests. Honestly one pill can help all day. They treat the symptoms and let you coast until your body can take care of the infection.

Im sorry you got treated that way at the clinic. Here they do that to, and it sucks. Even going to the ER its a run around. I go there now instead of a walk in..I know its not emergency persay, but with being treated that way it sucks. And geting a family doctor isnt all that easy. I would do a search online for family doctor taking new patients. Get in as soon as you can.
Good luck with your tests getting darker. thats a perfect sign of it progressing and not being false.
Try to relax about the bladder infection and tests. Reading online can make you panic and worry, trust me I know that all to well.
FX hugs

I have a bladder infection right now as well. I did have a faint line, but it turned out to be an evap and the dye had run. All my others will negative and now I'm thinking I'm Oing today! What a stupid cycle!!!! However, like I said, my test was an evap, it was pink, but it dried too quickly because I pulled it out of the test kit. The ones I didn't pull were all negs. Also I'm taking 500mg of amoxicillan. Today I just got ANOTHER bout of creamy white cm, leading me to believe my O is tonight or tomorrow. YAY for me...not! My cycles have gotten so out of wack!

BUT, I've never heard of a UTI causing a false positive. If that were the case, there'd be a whole lot of not pg woman throwing baby showers.... The only thing that can cause a positive test is the presence of hcg & that all. Some tumors etc can cause a rise in hcg, but if you don't have one, a uti isn't going to bring out hcg. It's unrelated.

Hopefully your pos was a pos! If so, congrats! Keep checking or better yet get a blood test to check your numbers. Take Care

No I don't think so, as far as I know only HCG can cause positives, faint or otherwise.
