So I had my monthly doctor appointment Tuesday, and today I got a call from the office saying they sent my prescription to my pharmacy because my urine sample came up as a bladder infection. I haven't had any burning, or other symptoms except I was having a little painful pressure in my lower stomach when using the restroom but that was only if I held it for a long time. The lady at the office who called me wasn't very helpful I asked if there were any precautions, I had to take, and why did I get this. She said no just take the antibiotics and drink lots of water and I probably got it from not drinking enough water. Crazy thing is I drink a ridiculous amount of water daily. I'm also kind of a germaphobe and often take 2 shower a day. The only thing I could assume is I got it from holding it to long when having to use the restroom because I literally have to go every 30mins or less. My question is has this happened to.anyone and are there any other precautions I should take? Should I not have sex? I wont see my doctor for another month and I really have no pain at all

From what I have read bladder infections are actually really common in pregnancy. Here is some more info, or at least what I was able to find online.

https://www.webmd.com/women/guide/pregnancy-urinary-tract-infection

Anyone can get a urinary tract infection, but it is most common in women, especially if they are pregnant.

  • Partial blockage of a urinary passage (from the pressure of an enlarged uterus, for example)
  • Sexual intercourse
  • Catheters (tubes placed into the bladder that empty the bladder)
  • Stool that gets wiped into the vagina after a bowel movement

They do not say much about how to treat it other than talking to your doctor and taking what they prescribed you. As far as I can tell, there is really a very limited amount of ways to avoid getting one. I don't think it was anything you did wrong, just something that happened.

the woman you spoke to is right about drinkin plenty as helps flush it out. I got bad uti when was 8weeks prego but i did have burning lol was jumpin off loo so sore. Just take full course antibiotics and you should be fine if they didnt say id maybe pop another sample urine in after youve fin antibiotics too make sure your all clear. Unfort some digns uti ar similar pregnancy ie urinating alot. I abstained frm sex as my vag was sore but dunno if your supposed too lol maybe better safe than sorry. I kinda go off sex when preg anyways lol. Uti is just one thes things we get

I had this at 14 weeks. I actually found out after it became pretty severe because I saw that I had blood in my urine. (dark brown at first then more of a reddish brown) when I went to doc the tested and said bladder infection. I had no signs or symptoms or pain. I had to take antibiotics for a week and it has not returned. I was drinking plenty of water too so holding it was the only thing I could think of too that would cause this. I was not given any precautions, just told med is safe for baby and drink plenty of water. I added cranberry juice to my diet anyway just to be sure. So lots of water and fresh juice and try not to hold it on ( that's the hard part for me cause when I gotta go I have to find another staff member or teacher to cover my class and some days I can go all day without seeing another adult except at lunch!

You most likely have it just from being pregnant. Bladder and UTI's aren't caused by being "dirty." If they have given you antibiotics and you don't mind taking them, then I suggest you do so in its entirety. On the other hand if you are iffy on antibiotics as they kill good bacteria as well as bad, you can take cranberry pills or drink pure cranberry juice (not cheap store brand) and they too will rid the infection.

As everyone else has said, bladder infections are very common in pregnancy and just happen, through no fault of your own. The antibiotics will clear it up. Drink lots of water and cranberry juice.
I had a bladder infection during my first pregnancy when I was able 28 weeks. I never had any signs at all. The only reason I found out was because I had gotten dehydrated(worked in a hot store in the middle of summer) and started having preterm contractions. They did routine urine test and found that I had it!
