Ella will be 5 months on wednesday, but she is soo interested in food! Well, the last few days, we have been giving her some food on her highchair just so she can 'join in' at dinner time and to let herexperience new flavours etc. Last night I made chunky sweet potato wedges and put a couple on her tray and boy did she getstuck in! She did eat a little.bit, and it ended up like mashed potato all over the plce, but she had fun and it kept her quiet whilst we all ate. She has also had banana (which was hilarious as it was so slippery!) And tonight we will give her some brocolli florets.

Is it okay to be doing this just now? She clearly has the skills to get the food toher mouth and since she is eating some, it seems she is ready. Of course, we will stick to fruit/veg until she is 6 months.

Also, what are some other good foods for her to try?

She looks like she's doing just fine :D

To me the whole point of baby led weaning is being baby led! So therefore starting when they are ready.

Sophie was ready from 5 months but we did delay it a few weeks just to be sure. I didn't want to regret it later on.

If you feel comfortable weaning then I say go for it. She looks like she is loving it :D

My baby boy is around the same age and my health visitor suggested we should start BLW. My DS started BLW at a similar age too. I dont see the harm if they seem ready

The thing with BLW theory is if they are sat up properly and you truly let them discover the food, bring it to their mouths themselves etc etc well then they won't manage to eat before they are ready because the skills develop in line with the gut development.

Strictly speaking BLW shouldn't be done until 6 months but I think a lot of it is to do with sitting up - they need to have an appropriately developed gag reflex (the older they get the further back it gets) but I think how well they sit up is connected. I might be wrong.
