How did you guys cope? Were your boobs sore?

My midwife said that I would have to bound about 2-3 days after birth.

Can anyone recommend anything as I am making my lists at the moment!

Also I have read that binding isn't good?!

Ace bandages are recommended, warm showers, ibuprofen too.

Anyone help?

Thanks

I think binding is a bit old fashioned, probably worked but not the nicest feeling I am sure.
I wore two bras quite tight, that did it without being squashed and rather warm...
Warm showers, hmmm.... that always got my milk going so I avoided that.
I took cold and flu tablets - read that helps, I think it did.
I bought some cold gel pads from mothercare and whacked them in my bra - they cold helped to soothe.
(they don't tell you about this bit when breastfeeding do they!!!!)

I wore sports bras and literally just did not touch them at all! In the shower I didnt let the water hit them directly. I took ibuprofen for the pain but it didnt help at all. Umm, well even now, if Haley cries all day long I have boobs full of milk. I dont know when its supposed to stop coming in constantly as I dont breastfeed anymore and even when I did I only did for 5 days.

cabbage leaves ..i know old wives tale worked for me and heaps of women i know something in the cabbage that helps soothe and takes the inflammation down bit like wat cucumber does for puffy tired eyes i guess and at first thought it was sooooo silly until almost like instant relief now i would never go passed it.

I was told to bind, which I didn, but I would say dont do it!!

I believe it was the cause of me getting mastisis! :( as everything was so tight..

you could take some brufen/paracetamol, also take warm baths.. oh and I wouldn't express any..

i didnt find the engorgement too painful, it was the mastisis.. also the engorgement didn't last very long for me, maybe 2-3 days, also I would say, use bio oil, as I got stretch marks from my milk coming in, but as I was strapped up I didn't notice til it was too late!

I FF my son and I didn't do anything special and had no pain until a blocked duct which turned into mastitis I believe... needed pills for it anyways. With my second child I did nothing, leaked a few times and that was it, and well my third I breastfed, lol... but I wouldn't worry about it yet, make sure you have good support in your bra, and some pain meds on hand. Might not be bad at all when your milk comes in.
