This morning I was diagnosed with borderline polyhydramnios (22 cm). I have had lots of fluid this entire pregnancy, but this is the first time the doctor has used the word 'excess' to describe it.

She said she is now pushing for delivery at 38 weeks (it's been a RCS scheduled for 39+1 this whole time) and that I may need 2 BPPs a week if the next BPP shows a further increase in fluid.

Does anyone else have this, or have had this in previous pregnancies? Were there any complications with your pregnancy or with your LO when he/she was born?

I'm Sorry I have no clue. I hope someone can help and good luck xxxx

i have polyhydraminos. at 32 week u/s, it measured 25. at 36 weeks, it measured 27 cm. my doc recommended that i deliver at 39 weeks, so my induction will be scheduled for the end of december (my due date is jan 5th). the warnings my doc gave me were...

1. my water could break early due to excess fluid making my bag of water's bulge once cervix opens (and possibly before).

2. cord prolapse- where the cord comes out thru the cervix before the baby. if this happens, the baby's head can come down the cord and clamp it, cutting off blood supply to baby.

3. placental abruption- if your water rushes out of your uterus too fast, it can pull your placenta off the wall of your uterus and cause hemorrhage.

u/s's don't show any abnormalities with baby, so i guess we wait and see. my sister had a TON of extra fluid and my nephew was born with no problems whatsoever. all i would suggest is make a list of questions for your doc and take it easy. also, if you suspect you water did break, get to the hospital asap. if this happens to me, i plan to basically stand on my head in the back seat of the car until we get to the hospital to reduce the risk of the cord getting clamped. i don't know if that's advisable or not, but sounds logical to me. :haha:

I have it. My numbers were 35 at some point but now thankfully 28. Still high but I get us every week... For some reason my md does not seem concerned...

I get weekly u/s too. My OB mentioned that if the fluid levels continue to rise and it gets out of control, they may have to do an amnio to remove some fluid? That sounds so scary to me.

Hello i know this is an old thread but just wanted to let you know that i had severe polyhydramnios and my fluid levels went from 23cm up to 36cm at one point. I had scans every 2 weeks and was really uncomfortable by 38 weeks. My bump felt like it was about to burst. They told me that even with my severe levels of fluid there was only a 5% chance that there was anything significantly wrong (but i still worried). i was induced at 38 weeks after a few weeks of not being able to walk properly, drive, work etc. Charlie was born 7lb11oz and totally gorgeous. I needed foreceps after a failed induction but i feel it was a small price to pay for what i got at the end of it :) xx

btw i had my waters broken and the midwives needed 30+ towels to clean it all up they had never seen so much amniotic fluid before lol and within minutes my bump was tiny and the relif was instant

I had this my last pregnancy, I had scans every 4 weeks. I didn't really get told a whole lot  I saw a consultant for it and that was that. I delivered at 40+5, went into labour naturally. He was all healthy, 7lb 15oz. :flower:

I have it. Been getting weekly us to monitor. Was decreasing each week and last week down to 14! Yesterday it was 26. They said to call if I notice severe swelling but that was about it. I'm trying not to stress but I'm anxious for my next us next week to see if it's better or worse :(

Buttercup, odd, this happened to me too. I was at 22 and then went down to 17 where I was for weeks, and now it's creeping back up to the low 20s.

They will. Be checking my fluid levels on the 17th. Im a type 1 diabetic and they worry about that...i do feel oddly uncomfortable this time around! Just waybigger :(

I wonder why?? it's stressing me out :( does your dr seemed concerned? or give a reason for why it might have gone up?

She is not concerned, or if she is hasn't mentioned anything to me :/ She said she would only worry if I hit the 25 cm mark or if I went below 7-8 cm (in which case she'd conclude that I was leaking). Maybe I should ask her about it when I see her on Monday. Her biggest concern was that it was high before, but now that it's down from 22 cm she seemed relieved.

i have my next weekly checkup on monday, so i'll def ask my dr about it then (hopefully i can relax a bit before then). but then my next ultrasound to remeasure isn't until next friday. at first, i thought going weekly was a lot...now it doesnt seem like enough!
