I really want to breast feed this baby its 6 years on now so i am detemind. Can you give me any tips please.

Also which breast pumps would you recommend?

Many thanks for your time Kasey xxx

Hey there, I was exactly the same as you, tried to breastfeed my son 6 years ago, and it just totally didnt work. I didnt ask for enough help, and by the time I did I was in too much pain to continue, and I was only 19, a bit shy, too shy to ask! My main tip would be do not be afraid to ask for help whenever you think you need it, even if you feel like you are harassing people..ask and ask away. Also look at some videos on the net of how to position your baby well, this helped me, and be prepared in the beginning to do nothing except feed! Maybe find out about breastfeeding support groups in your area also, I had a woman from the breastfeeding network come out to see me a few weeks ago and it really helped. On the pumping question, Im using the Avent Isis hand pump, on a bad day can only pump 1-2 oz, but managed almost 4 one morning, but unforunately, Skye doesnt like bottles, so Ive not pushed her yet. Anyway! After that huge post, good luck! Im sure youll do fine this time! :)

Definitely insist on someone helping you!

A bit of research before hand will probably throw up a local breastfeeding support group. It's worth a visit or a call an find out who in your area offers help in addition to the midwives and HV's.

If you are in the Uk, NCT is great place to start. They ahve breastfeeding counsellors in most area's who work voluntarily. You can probably attend an ante-natal breastfeeding workshop, will will not only help you undertand things like latch on, but you will learn a bit more about th mechanics of breastfeeding.

Remember, its very rare that a woman physically cannot breastfeed, the most commonly reality is that the ones who 'can't' just aren't given the help to work out issues and successfully establish feeding! So just make sure you get it....it's available for all those who want it!
