My DS is 6 1/2 weeks old and was going 3-4 hrs between feeds during the night and 2-3 during the day but these last few days he has only been going 2-21/2 max - day or night but he's only feeding for 10 mins at a time whereas before he would easily do 30-40 mins.
Is it a growth spurt or has he got into the habit of snacking rather than taking a full meal?
What can I do to fix this - I'm absolutely shattered and on the verge of giving up BF altogether. DS is not the easiest to feed - he gets loads of gas no matter how long I burp him for and repeated pulls away from my boob during feeds taking my nipple with him - ouch!
Any advice please girls this is really getting me down - spent most of the day in tears.

 he is likely going through a growth spurt. Alexa did this a lot when she was in her early months, it does get better

Yep- growth spurt. Eating more often to get your supply up. As for the time, LO's become more efficient at draining the boob and many can do it in 5-10 minutes. I'm honestly surprised he has been going for 30-40 minutes for this long (I wonder if he was getting milk that whole time or nursing for comfort the last 15 minutes). If you can, think of this all as good news rather than letting it get you down. In probably 1-2 weeks he will be able to go longer again and will probably continue only needing 10 or so minutes to eat it all and now you are burning even more calories:) Hang in there.

6 week growth spurt. Try to be patient love and hang in there, it will start getting easier soon!

Sounds like a growth spurt. Harry only spends 5-10 mins feeding but would stay on for hours for comfort if i let him!! It will soon pass hun xx

Thanks for the replies and support. He's not quite so crazy today so Im feeling a lot more positive!

I think BF is really hard in the beginning. It does get ALOT easier. When he feeds like that, it's best to ignore everything you have to do, get some food and drink, and cuddle up with him. Also remember it WILL NOT last forever and you can get through it!

I feel like a breastfeeding cheerleader sometimes

I def agree with the others hun, having been there and done that twice already! and now doing it again for the third time, I've got all those growth spurts still to come xXx
It will get easier and you will cope just fine, sounds like you are doing a great job so far xXx

Puts a new spin on "yummy mummy" he must think your milk is delicious. Seriously though sound like a growth spurt to me. Hang on in there he will settle soon.
