theres a show coming up called other peoples breast milk on channel 4 @9pm about modern day wet nurses.

was wondering what you guys all thought about the concept of feeding someone else's child? or your baby being breast fed by someone else??

I would hate Sam to be fed by someone else!! It's one thing getting bottled breast milk from someone else if you can't feed yourself (do people do that too?!) but I wouldn't want someone else to have the emotional connection you get from feeding your own baby. I wouldn't be comfortable feeding someone else's baby either

What day is it on? Just had a look and couldn't find it tonight x

My MIL told me that she had so much milk that while in the hospital she breastfed a few babies.

Now, could I possibly do that? Good question.

But, to have my baby breastfed by someone else? No, I honestly don't think I could possibly be able to handle that.

Think it's on Tuesday 9th September...someone remind me to watch it! x

yes sorry its on the 9th! i thought i wrote it but i clearly just thought about the idea!

i think its really interesting, i know they used to allow people to donate milk for premmie babys but im not sure why they dont know, poss because the threat of infection etc??

id donate my milk, and id let someone feed my baby if i was in a position where i couldnt but im not sure i could feed someone else's child

no im wrong you can still donate boobie juice!

i could donate my milk by expressing but thats it x

Interesting, I'll have to watch that. I think I would let someone try as long as I knew them well - maybe my sister. Particularly if I couldn't do it. I have thought about what I would do if given a baby to foster while still breastfeeding Kaya, and tbh I would probably try and feed it.

i wish i had known about milk donation after i had my still birth i had sooooo much milk and it all got wasted :-(

If I had fostered/adopted a baby I don't think I would have a problem with it...if the baby was actually in my care. If his or her mother was still the main carer I'm not sure I could though. But I'd definitely find that easier than letting someone else feed Sam x

i think it would be diff if the baby was in my care also if someone really close to be had issues (illness or whatever) id prob have to try rather than flatly refusing the idea

If I knew a baby was hungry and had no other choice - with the consent of the parent's, I'd feed another child. Likewise with my own child and someone else feeding her. It'd be a desperate situation. Other than that, no way.

I dont think I would either let Seth eb fed by someone else, or I couldn't feed another baby either. It makes me feel a bit uncomfortable, Im not sure why.

xxx

I don't think I could or allow it - in fact no defo not! BUT That link about dnating milk for that reason is something that I would feel comfortable doing myself & accepting myself for my baby if I was in that situation (my baby was prem & I had a milk supply problem).

Good information I think I may look more in to this and put some info on the forum.

I'd donate, for premature babies because they need it...but for me to feed personally, I'm not sure...I doubt it though.
