breast feeding someone elses baby?**on now**

If there was a hungry baby near me who needed to be fed and the parents agreed, then I would do it with no problems at all.

I'd never thought about it the other way round until I read this thread though. No, I wouldn't be happy for someone else to feed Aaron unless is was an emergency.

Sounds like an interesting program, but we don't have a tv. :(

I think I would also donate milk for a preemie or sick baby but there's no reason why a mother can't breastfeed her own child...?

its on channel 4 so youll be able to get it online, i have since found more info on boobie juice donation if anyones interested? its something that i will 100% seriously look into from now. i joked with emma12uk that id send her frozen boob juice for tom but i didnt realize you could actually still do it!

kate garroway (gmtv presenter i think) did the show and i have read some interviews with her about it and she said she went into it saying no way its awful why would you do that and came out thinking it was an amazing thing, she said they had breast feeding groups where women who feed other peoples babys educate women who are having issues feeding their own children like a more hands on lactation consultant! ill have a dig and see if i can find some of the interviews online!

I'd love to see it...is their a link on youtube? I want to see it but not in the Uk :(

you should be able to get it on 4 on demand after its been shown on channel 4

Interesting .... its not something i think i could do though.

I'd surely donate to a bank - and I'd also feed my child banked milk.

I'd also probably feed another child, but that would mean I would have to be within feeding range every 2 to 4 hours for that baby which seems unlikely.

Now if it was family and we lived near eachother, that's one thing, but to try to coordinate - pickup and drop off of an infant that needs massive amounts of care those first few months... I dunno - logistically it just seems impossible.

I donated my boobie milk when my little lad was in nicu as i had ssssssssooooooooooo much, also my best friend and i have feed each others boys as we were both breast feeding exclusively and once a month we used to baby sit for each other so it only seemed right to keep babies on breast.
If i was unable to feed my lo due to illness then i'd prefer him to be fed by someone else rather than by bottle and i would feed another womans lo if need be.

I think donation is a wonderful thing ! I dont think id like to feed personally.

I watched a programme about a woman who had her baby but was then taken seriously ill her sister was knew how much breast feeding ment to her and as she was still feeding her lo she gave the baby its first 2 feeds.

I would feel comfortable with donating

xxx

Theres tons of reasons why a mother might not be able to breastfeed her child...

I think milk donation is a great and very special idea. Anyone who does so is giving the other little one a fantastic start to life where the mother cannot feed it for whatever reason

xxx

soooo many reasons why a mum cant breast feed her own child!!!

the more i think about it the more id try it if the situation arose

I could donate to babies in hospital etc, but I couldn't let someone else BF my baby.

i wish i had known about milk donation after i had my still birth i had sooooo much milk and it all got wasted :-(

Babe....did they not give you some medicine to dry it up:cry:

Both times I lost my newborns the Dr gave me a tablet to stop my milk production...I had no engorgement, nothing...not even a drip. This helped enormously coz I couldn't have dealt with that too:hugs:

Not sure bout the wet nursing thing....noooooooooo actually nope I couldn't let someone feed my baby.

If it was expressed and screened and I couldn't feed baby then yep....that's different in my eyes.

HIV etc can be passed onto baby through milk so you would have to be positive that the person giving your baby milk isn't infected too

Is breastmilk as beneficial if it isn't from your own body? You know how they say it changes to your babies needs?

I do know of a case where a mother was separated from her 3 month old and her sister had custody of her (long story) and the sister bf the baby and the mother just pumped and saved her milk.

An online friend of mine used to pump her breastmilk & donate it to a milkbank. If I had an abundance of milk & didn't have issues about pumping I would do it too.
I'd also breastfeed another baby if it was really needed but I don't think I'd be happy about my baby being breastfed by someone else, breastmilk from a bottle - absolutely.
I've put a reminder on that programme, can't wait to see it.

Can't wait for all the childish comments though...

i would imagine breast milk is more benifitial than formula no matter whos body it came from??? im not sure though i could be wrong *hides*

I would HATE Caitlyn being breastfed by someone else. I wouldn't feel comfortable breast feeding someone elses baby either.

I actually wished that my sister was still breastfeeding last night. She was babysitting Kaya who became hysterical, and she had to take her out in the chilly night in the buggy to get her to stop. Would have been so much better if she could have just fed her!
