are so expensive! Any tips on where to stock up on a few before my little one gets here? Or maybe how to compromise with what I have or even customise some old tops!?

I can't afford to pay upwards from £30 for what amounts to a t-shirt with holes in!

Thanks x

nooo, don't bother! just wear a cheap vest under clothes and when you need to feed, just pull the vest down and your top / dress up.

I don't plan on buying anything honestly. Maybe a breast feeding bra if anything? But tops, no. I'm not returning to work, I'll be home with my son so I'll just whip it all off :haha: if I'm going out then I will pump ahead of time, depending on our plans =)

As Mum2b_Claire said, vest and top are a great option. H&M also do a plain, but reasonably priced range of maternity stuff. To be honest, nowadays I just wear reasonably low necked tops, and pull them down, but I liked the security of 2 tops, or a nursing top when I started out.

:haha: lol at 'whip it all off'!! Good plan, I'll be at home most of the time too but hope to be able to go out for coffee etc with friends and be confident enough to breastfeed in public too. Eeek! Maybe I'll just need a few things and then look out for more as I go along.

Thanks girls! x

You know, I went to look at nursing bras a few weeks ago and I couldn't find ANY I liked at all. I am very particular about bras though.. I basically hate wearing them and can't stand to feel any 'scratchy' material on my skin. Then I decided to see if the company that makes my current bra (which I am very happy with) made nursing bras. They don't, BUT, they do make some really nice front close bras! I ordered one through JCpenny and had it shipped to the store (free shipping & returns!) and picked it up on Tuesday.

This.
Bra.
Is.
Heaven.

It fits perfect and is soo soft and smooth, I completely forget that I'm wearing it! And personally I think that having it open in the front and being able to move the WHOLE cup away is going to be a lot more functional than the crummy flip down ones I tried in the store.. they kept folding back up and I just couldn't see that being comfortable or easy to work with when your trying to hold and feed a baby.

This is the bra I got if anyone is interested: Warner's Invisbile Bliss® Front-close Lift wire-free Style #1055

Other than that I don't really plan on buying much else.. I wear a lot of tank tops, and I think it will be fine just sliding the strap off my shoulder.

I plan to just wear clothes that are low neck lines or buttoning at the front?

I have bought several stretchy tops that button down to just below my bust and a few nursing bras. A couple of tops from Tesco were £7 each!
I too was not going to spend a fortune on proper nursing tops.
Try ebay too but they still seem to be quite expensive.

Matalan do nursing tees, they're ok. I've picked up some second hand bf'ing tops, bella mama, boob, carriwell and mamaway. But if you are comfortable with one top up, one down or pulling the top down then great! lot cheaper and you have way more choice!!! I have about 5 tops in rotation.

I've heard awesome things about Undercover Mama - it's a tank top that attaches directly to your nursing bra. Then you wear your normal tops over and just lift up when you need to nurse. I've ordered 2 in black :)

I struggled with nursing tops - my nipples just were not in the right place lol!!!

Much more success with a stretchy vest top underneath - pull vest top down under boob and lift top up. Shows just as little flesh, less fiddly and cheaper!

Hubby didn't realise I was feeding some times - though in the beginning I did just strip off lol!!!

they are a total waste of money even if they were £10 still a wse of money they dont make feeding any easier if anythign they make it harder as you have to faff about with your top

just wear a tight top live a vest to or something with a loose baggy top over it then when you feeding you can lift the baggy top up the tight strappy top down latch bubs on and the baggy top with cover baby aswell

the only nursing thing that i would say you deffo need is a nursing bra with no wires in it :-) they sell these in matalan if you dont wana pay mothercare and m&s prices :-)

I've been looking at the special nursing clothes too. They are far too expensive!

Im just planning on getting a few cheapo bandeaux tops from Pennys or Dunnes and wearing them under a baggy normal top, and just pull the bandeaux top down under my bra and lift up my normal top.

I have bought a few of the Bravado Seamless Nursing bras in different colours, they are so so so comfy. And well worth the extra few quid for the support they provide. And I love that they grow with my boobs too.
