I have a breech baby and I'm worried for his hips

Got a section next week and I can't help but think his legs will be funny

Anyone had a breech baby shed any light on the situation he's a Frank breech position so I'm told x

Thanks in advance x

I haven't had one, but my brother was born in Frank's breech position - vaginally, no less! He never had any issues with his hips even as a baby and young child - his shoulders are messed up but that's from playing hockey and getting in fights lol... Baby may need extra checkups to check on his hips, but I'm sure he's going to be just fine  Good luck!

My daughter was breech from 26 weeks until 39 weeks when i had her by c section, she had to have a hip scan at a few weeks old but she was fine it never affected her. She was just a big baby which is why i think she couldnt turn!

My sisters LO was frank breech (they actually told her he was engaged till 2 weeks before but certainly wasn't). He's had a few extra scans but is absolutely perfect, no issues :). Good luck hun
Xx

Hi there. My little girl was breech until 42 weeks. On examination she didn't have any signs of clicky hips and wouldn't have been scanned if it hadn't been for the fact that I was transferred back to my local MLU where they automatically refer all breech babies for ultrasounds of the hips. On her first scan she showed slight dysplasia but by her second scan she was fine. I used a soft sling which is supposedly good for hip dysplasia as it keeps the legs in a frog position. Not sure if that helped or not. If her second scan had still showed dysplasic hips she would have had to have a cast put on. I would def push for scans though, even if your baby has no sign of clicky hips when born.

I'm having a section in less than 2 weeks and no one has mentioned anything about potential hip problems. Is that common with breech baby's?

My little girl was breech from 14 weeks, I was scanned every month and she didn't turn. She was born via c-section at 36+5. She did have typical 'frog legs' which soon resolved, she had a hip scan at 6 weeks old and all was fine. Don't worry. This little girl is also breech but i'm not worried as i've been through it before x

My daughter was breech basically the entire pregnancy, and frank breech for the last 10 weeks. Her hips were a little tight when she was born, taking several minutes to relax. They initially told me she had a hip anomaly bc of this, but she has no issues. She was just sort of stuck in a V position. Poor thing. I hope everything is ok with your LO!

My LG was frank breech until 39 weeks. I had a section even though she tured a few days before. She kept her legs in a frog position for a few weeks but her hips are absolutely fine. We took her to a specialist when she was 10 days old for an ultrasound but there was no problem. At 2.5 years old her hips are quite flexible and she is seeing an OT for low muscle tone. I don't know if it is related at all.

Frank breech is when they have their feet up by their face isnt it? Id ask at your next appointment about what the chances are of baby having problems from it and what can be done if there is. I have no first hand experience tho im afraid x

There's a slightly higher risk of hip dysplasia but this can be rectified with a cast. The doctors check all babies for clicky hips during their first checks and will send your baby for hip scans if they are concerned. Some hospitals send all breech babies for hip scans. As you can see from the replies to this post, most breech babies are absolutely fine. My little girl's legs kept rising up when I placed her flat on her back and it took a while for her legs to remain down but that was her only issue.

Mw said there be very good at checking hips and his genitaks maybe swollen when born one week today I meet my little man 6 sleeps

I'm so scared at the same time to have a section but I guess that's a normal fear x

My son was breech for a huge chunk of my pregnancy.
His hips were fine, they do send you for a routine cheap on their hips at 6 weeks, but i'm sure your baby will be fine.

I'm having my 2nd section this time and i'm so scared haha x

My husband was breech and born butt first, vaginally. He dislocated his hips and shoulders and had to be in a little baby body cast for awhile. My mother in-law talks about it all the time. He didn't suffer any permanent damage though. I would just make sure your baby's dr has experience with hip problems just in case it is an issue.

They check all babies hips, so if there is a problem they will pick up on it and it will be treated appropriately. My son has joint problems and it really doesn't cause him major issues. He does walk a bit strangely but hit all milestones early. Even if it does happen it's not the end of the world. Good luck!

Ds1 was right side up and had hip dysplasia, it's picked up very quickly and rectified easily although the brace is hard at first for those weeks most cases are rectified without any further issues. Ds1 has never had any issues with his hips.
Ds2 was born breech vaginally and had a hip scan because a he was breech and b because ds1 had hip dysplasia, they had no concerns previously as his hips didn't click when they checked and his hips were fine confirmed with the scan. The scan is an ultrasound like when your pregnant so causes no issues and is over and done with in 10 mins.
Bottom line dw about hips, if it's an issue there's nothing you have done or could do to change, and it's very easily treated with no long term issues. Chances are however there's no issue.
Hth x

It's usually only a risk if they're born vaginally and breech. I wouldn't worry x

How did you cope with a vaginal breech? Did you know baby was breech

No didn't know till I started pushing a bum instead of a head, they decided to carry on. I did it on g&a and it wasn't as bad as you'd expect. Pain wise compared to my other labours it's all about the same. Apart from the ring of fire, that hurt!
