Bright red bleed at 20 weeks

I'm relieved to hear all is well! I had some spotting that started around week 16, and still occasionally have some brown discharge in stretchy mucus I'm 19 weeks tomorrow. I panicked thinking I was loosing the mucus plug. I spoke to the on call midwife at week 17, who didn't seem concerned, as the bleeding was very light and mainly brown and mixed in discharge. She was pretty certain it was coming from my cervix because it was in discharge, although I never had an exam. She also said it's not uncommon to never find out the cause of bleeding.

I decided to book a private scan at 17 weeks 2 days for reassurance that all was well, I have a doppler so knew she was still alive but I was worried that she might not be growing properly as I hadn't felt any movement! I also had a mmc in April and was anxious partly because you don't hear about bleeding the the second tri that much.

The scan showed a very healthy and active baby girl! The sonographer found that the placenta was anterior but not low, which explains why haven't felt any movement or kicks yet.

I'm really glad to hear that I'm not the only one with blood loss in the second tri! The midwife said the only time I should be worried is if I loose enough blood to soak through a pad, and experience pain, otherwise she said it's not uncommon to get some spotting or bleeding throughout pregnancy especially as the baby is getting bigger and putting pressure on areas that aren't used to it.

Hi belle, yeah I think it isnt uncommon but like you its just so worry after having a mmc isnt it? I hadnt heard of many people having bleeding in 2nd tri either and when you look online all the websites refer to bleeding in the 1st tri or later on in the 3rd tri so I was worried! I am putting it down to either sensitive cervix and canal wall and the hard stools putting pressure on and bursting a vessel or something, either that or all the pressure from my 4 scans the day before (my awkward little monkey wouldnt stay in good positions to be measured so I was back and forth to be scanned for over an hour!!) maybe that had just dislodged something.

You arent rhesus negative though are you belle? Coz I have to have an anti d injection if I have any sort of bleeding coz I'm A rhesus negative blood group.

I know I'm a lot further along than you but I had a bright red bleed a couple of days ago, bought on by dtd, I went to the hospital and they gave me an exam and said that the bleeding was caused by cervical erosion/ectropion and that my cervix is closed and that it's definitely not coming from the baby, so maybe you have something similar?? Hope everything turns out fine for you :flower:

Hi Bailybub, no I'm not Rheus negative. It was one of the first things the midwife checked over the phone, but thanks for the heads up x

Update again! Same as yesterday now, no blood at first then a bit of blood after I did a number 2 but I made sure (sorry tmi) that I strategically wiped and I am now convinced the hospital were wrong and it DID come from my behind, so although there were no piles I'm thinking maybe it was a burst blood vessel or an anal fissure. I'm gonna go to the doctors this afternoon and get a stool softener and get advice but I am feeling a bit more relieved. I still can't believe that much blood could have come from behind though that I had on Saturday!! Scary!
