to MIL that we are having christmas here alone, just me, hubby & baby

It went well, I asked if we could go there on bank holiday (27th) and asked if she would do christmas dinner etc then so we can have a proper christmas with them too, I said she can keep hold of baby's gifts until then so they can open them with baby etc and the day is very much about how she wants it.

so glad we got that out the way, was dreading it and I know she won't be totally happy about it but this is our first christmas as husband & wife, our first christmas with our first baby and well our first christmas we have actually been alone! I just over hyped having christmas with them on 27th so hopefully she will accept it and I won't be subject to phonecalls in a few days time telling me I ruined yet another christmas (has been known!)

We managed to keep Christmas Day to ourselves last year, but the trade-off was going down to the ILs for New Year. We won't be doing it this year for various reasons, but DH is being a chicken and hasn't told his Mum yet It'll cause ructions when she does find out, but I'm not submitting LO to a long car journey in winter again, not now that she doesn't just sleep all the time!

That sounds like a really good plan. We're having everyone round to ours (my mum and step dad and OH's parents) but we have a slightly different situation as we live with my sister and her OH anyway. The two guys are in charge of all the food!

it was our first xmas alone with girls last year and i loved it.
i really enjoyed making xmas dinner was brilliant, every year now just going be us after all were a 'family' do visiting another day.

Good for you!! OH and I are adamant we are having Christmas dinner at ours ALONE. My mum was a bit disappointed. This is the first Christmas since me (ex) father in law was arrested happydance and she wanted me close, she's become very protective of me We are going there for Christmas tea though and she'll be up (with my sis and niece) on Boxing day.

although MIL has apparently rang my mum already to check we aren't going there for christmas lol and shes told my mum that one of her sisters kids tried this one year and they were bored so she is expecting us to go 'running back' to her next year lol

I think it was nice of you to suggest going there and I think that would be nice and would work out fine. Baby is getting two Christmas days that way lol!
Its nice to spend it alone but I do enjoy being around my family.
We go to OH Mum and Dads in the morning and we open presents there and then we go to my mum and dads for dinner.. Its lovely. We are italian so we dont have a roast dinner. We have a big italian dinner and then we do boxing day at OH mum and dad's!!

weve decided last night that

my parents, bros, sisters etc and MIL, DIL & SIL can come in the morning then they can all bugger off and we will have christmas dinner and evening alone,think its for the best, OH wants to be able to have a drink or 2 this year last year we were driving through snowstorms 100mile round trip with a 4month old not doing it again!

apart from i refuse to do 2 xmas days!! My mum already knows i want xmas day to our selfs just got to tell the MIL about it and that we will 100% NOT do opening pressents anyday before or after at hers lol but my parents and inlaws can both see Kyle Xmas eve.. not sure when or how or who is going to tell them lol might just set my fb status at is going to have a great xmas day just the 3 of us lol

We've had Christmas day just the two of us since 2008.
We spend Christmas Eve with my family, going to church and having dinner, then visit his parents and our grandmothers on Boxing Day.

Good for you hon, it's only right you get to spend the first year as a family alone.

I never spend Christmas day with anyone but my Oh and kids. Before I met my OH I used to go to my mums every year and she is still finding it hard that Christmas is a me, oh and the kids only time. I usually sort stuff out for Christmas eve or boxing day.
