Helloo :hi: flora!
Well I've just skim read through loads of pages. The videos are fab! Maffie - you have a JJB? Spotted it at your Mums I think? I am a big fan :D

T seems to be doing everything at the right time but I just can't get him to eat. It's becoming a bit of a nightmare.. He clamps his mouth and point blank refuses. We're trying BLW but it's so hard :(

Any tips I'd be very grateful

Still at 8 months he'll be getting most his nutrition from milk. Trying to put a spoon of food against a clamped shut mouth will in his mind make a negative connection with it.

It could also be he don't like mush food. Autumn will have nothing to do with mush food with lumps. It either has to be really smooth, or the actual food.

I recommend just giving him the actual foods and let him experiment with textures and taste. Give him a bud of broccoli or cauliflower. You can give this steamed so slightly soft, but does not fall to bits, or raw. Autumn prefers it raw. Carrot sticks (I tend to just cut a carrot in half and give it to her that way cause it's easier for her to grip)

One of her absolute favourites are frozen peas!

Um .. a slice of toast with a bit of butter was/is one of her fav on her gums when teeth were coming thru. Oh and cheerios!

Another thing to consider is, you say he just cut a tooth. I bet his gums are hurting him. Autumn won't take a spoon *at all* when she's got a tooth cutting. The only way I can get her to take a bottle is with calgel (Kinda like bongella) What she really enjoyed on her gums when teeth were coming thru were lumps of frozen fruit. You know, the ready frozen bags you buy with hunks of pinapple/mango and such in it?

I know it's frustrating with him not eating solids, but the most important thing to remember is let him do it at his own time and not force cause otherwise, as I say it will give negative association with meal times and make it all that harder. Just plonk the foods on his high chair table and let him experiment. Even if it's messy! You could do the same with the mush and just let him feel it in his hands. He'll get the idea.

Hope this helps!!

JJB Neon?

oooh Flora happy to see more bumpkins getting bumps  I cant believe im nearly all way through first tri already

Noah had a bad bad night. Before I left the old house Noah had a little nose bleed. Ive discovered a cut up there and now it keeps bleeding. It looks so sore.

Now he's up and around people he's bright as a button and im half dead (typical)

Food wise we are doing well, he loves everything. Ive found if I let him hold some food he'll pop some in his mouth. He does best when we eat out as he loves the attention.

Thanks Chaos - really helpfull thanks hun. I am trying Baby Led Weaning with him but he's just not interested atm :( I was wondering if there are any really yummy starting off foods anyone may have tempted their LO with... I tried cucumber and corn flakes this morning.. It doesn't help that our house is so tiny we don't eat together - which is a major part of BLW - I'm really struggling! I have the high chair in our kitchen and we eat on the sofa and we don't really have breakfast or sit down meals so I'm not sure if it's a whold lifestyle thing really!

JJB Neon?

Now I feel like a stalker editing this photo :laugh2:

Tell me I haven't imagined a Ju Ju Be bag in Perky Perennials print?

I had a rubbish night too - meds in the middle of the night and T still feeds around three times during the night! He's having a lovely sleep now of course!!!!
:hugs:

Flora i had to go colcoscopy just before i got pregnant with hollie. They took a biopsy but they said they didnt know if it would get worse or sort itself out. I then fell pregnant with hollie so they couldnt do anything more. Then i had them every 6 months after hollie and all was ok. Then i had one after i had sam and it came back good and am back on yearly checks :)

In the start, I brought the high chair in the front room next to me on the sofa. When I put a food on her tray, I'd take a nibble and kinda show her how to chew, doing the chewing action with my mouth open so she could see the teeth crunching the food.

The very first thing she had was a bit of steamed apple and it remains a favourtie today. Pretzels are a big thing too, I just rub the rock salt off with my finger and give her the pretzel, she'll chew on them for hours. She also really liked runner beans cause I think they are long and she can get a grip on them. Any kind of cereal she loves, cheerios being her fav, but she also really likes rice crispies. (Just dry on the tray so she can practice picking up between finger and thumb)

Now a days, to get her used to different foods/textures, I just give her a bit of food off my plate to play with/eat. The other day she had pie and mash, then the next shepherds pie. Last night she had salmon and pasta.

OH! She loves just plain cooked pasta twirls. (I used whole wheat)

How odd were all low on energy!

Flora: Yeah it was me, it's time I booked in for No.2 so I'd best call them this week and get it done. I have no other experiences of this or known anyone else, I hope everything is okay for your sis :flower: Flora, your tracking skills on this forum amaze me! I had such a time filling in for you when you had Harry, was good fun tho!

Neon:  Congrat's on Thom's tooth!

Chaos: My old friend used to love frozen pea's, she was 13 at the time tho :haha:

How do you regulate salt and sugar intake though when you feed like this? Or do you not have any salt and sugar in your own food?

Snap! Monty loves fusili. I haven't tried any other pasta shapes with him, so I don't know if it's the pasta per se or the actually twisty feel of the spirals.

Just a quickie from me as I'm working and we had another shite night. OH waiting on a phone call from a different HV - be interesting to see how her suggestions differ from our own HV. (Our usual HV is on hols, so we're dealing with the HV from the surgery in the next village for this next 2 weeks.)

Aimee, I hope your dad is OK. Bit concerned we haven't heard from you for a couple of days.

I make all our dinners from scratch and as you say, I don't add extra salt or sugar to the stuff she's having. I might put a bit of butter in mash cause otherwise mash tastes like nothing, but that's about it!

Now Birthday cake, that's a different matter. A lot of her little friends have been turning one as of late, and I think I've created a monster haha

Evening girls. How is everyone? I think James either has hayfever or is coming down with something. He was awake at 2am for a good 30 minutes and all that would settle him is being held. Ended up swaddling him to get him back in his cot. He's done nothing but sneeze all day and he is so grizzly and grumpy. He had his bath and bottle and was in bed by 7.15pm which is a bit early for him but not by much, and is now awake again :( Doesn't help that I'm feeling like utter pants. I've had 2 periods in the space of 3 weeks and just feel really off balance like I'm leaning to the left even though I'm stood up straight. Been getting alot of headaches and I feel shattered all the time. I'm off to the GP tomorrow to get a cyst checked out that I've had on my arm for a while (its changed colour to almost black) so will speak to her about it at the same time.

James had some pear today. It was hilarious! He was getting cross cos it was all slippery lol but he did well. Ate almost half a pear. Will try to upload some pics later.

Flora - my sis had abnormal smears. She had a colposcopy and it showed stage 3 pre-cancerous cells so she had to have some kind of treatment. Hope it all goes well for your sis.

Kte, Jo & LilKit- thanks for the info/feedback re abnoraml smears. The colposcopy thingy (am i spelling that right?) went well according to my sister & they said, while there is a presence of abnormal cells, they dont appear to be pre-cancerous or anything. they want to see her again in 4 months & if there is no change, they will do a biopsy... The lady said she wold probably be on yearly checks regardless for the rest of her life & my sis was like, 'great, more people staring up my vag!'

Neon, Harry went through a phase where he was just completely off food, totally uninterested. I dunno what it was - I thought maybe teething, but he still has no teeth, so now i'm unsure. We are now doing almost entirely BLW- mainly fruit n vege & the very occasional meat. To get him interested again, I anticbac wiped over his changing mat, then sat on the floor with him with some plain pasta, chunks of soft pear, sweet potato wedges, steamed broccoli etc. and we just played with the food & made loadsa mess & stuff... over a couple of days he started putting it in his mouth, then spitting it out & smushing it into the change mat, then about a week later, he was eating & swallowing almost everything. I now bring his high chair into the lounge & sit him between me & OH while we sit & eat our dinner & because we're eating, it signals to him to eat too & it allows us to eat in peace & also have him nearby so we can see what he's doing & give positive praise- anything he doesn't want, he throws straight on the floor, the rest he munches away on as happily as anything. I try to offer fruit, vege, dairy & protein each day. I'd say he eats about 50% of what's offered to him, the rest is either thrown or smushed. I hate the mess, but it's worth it if it means he's not clamping his mjouth shut or screaming & getting upset. It tough, but stick with it- he'll get there. You're BFing stull right? If so, it may be also that he prefers getting his food from you because he enjoys the comfort/bond/huggles etc with you?

Maffie, how you doing hun?

Chaos, what camera do you use? I was looking at your pics on FB & they're such great pics!!!

LK, how do you cope with the commute & evertything??? I would be dead by now working such long shifts & communting etc. You're like supergirl!

Kte, I have a really weird memory. Ask me what I did last week & I'll draw a blank, ask me something about someone totally random, & for some reason, i can remember it clear as crystal. It's actually kinda annoying, coz there's things I know I need to know, but for the life of me, just can't retain that info. Like times tables, street names, my own bloody telephone number... No idea! Ask me what date it was when some random person walked past a red car at 9am on such & such a road & I will recall it with no hesitance whatsoever. I'm weird :)

Im doing ok thanks flora, hurting but know leaving was for the best. Life is going to be much better for me, Noah and bump. I know not all men are like that.

Noah was in bed early again tonight, he's so lively and alert all day then crashes just after 7pm. The naps have declined but at least he seems to be sleeping well (apart from the 4am feed) Although he was up then this morning has his mouth is sore and he's got a really sore nose its like a nail scratch up.

LK how did you trust again after your ex, and advice most welcome.

Chaos Noah loves cheerios too.

Its an older camera, I've had it about 5 years now. It's an Kodak Easy share Z740. Not a great camera in todays standards, but it does me. I've been playing with my friends Nikon d3000, Been trying to convince the DH that I need one :)

Thank you SO much - you have no idea what this means... :hugs:

Well, everything you read about childcare always says something along the lines of you will KNOW when your child is ill. And golly, did we know last night. We were just watching Brazil-North Korea (gotta hand it to the North Koreans, eh?) when we heard Monty coughing over the baby monitor. He doesn't usually cough and it sounded a bit odd, so OH went up to check on him. The coughing continued, I heard OH say 'OK don't worry little one, daddy's here' ... and then in a more panicky voice, 'Er, "Colsy", he's been sick'. And he really had been - proper grown-up vomiting all over his cot - and all over his brand-new organic cot mattress just a couple of weeks old :dohh: We had to put all the lights on, strip the entire bed down (it had gone through three layers of sheet and still managed to get on to the mattress) and then bath Monty because he was covered in sick, all in his hair, up his back, everywhere. Brushed his teeth to help him feel a bit better and then - woah - up came a load more sick, only fortunately OH was holding him over the bathroom sink so at least we got the majority of it! Into his bedroom, where he went really floppy, barely moving, frightened me really because he was just so lethargic, seemed like he was barely inhaling. And then more puking. And then he pretty much passed out on me, let us dress him while he was still asleep, and all the while we're talking in normal voices and the bright lights are on and nothing will wake him up. But not once did he have a fever - if anything, he actually felt colder than usual. Wasn't sure where best to put him down for sleep, so in the end we protected the cot mattress with lots of towels and then made up his bed as usual, and then put a sofabed mattress on the floor next to him and slept there. He woke about 1am for a little BF, and then straight back to sleep again until 5.45am. At which point he woke up with lots of smiles :happydance: and I sighed a bit of relief, as I really was a bit scared in the night, as this is the first time he's been well and truly properly noticeably ill. He's had a small amount of breakfast this morning, and a couple of BF. I wouldn't say he's completely back to normal, but he has at least eaten and drunk something and he's played a little, so I am not so worried now. He's now napping, so just really waiting to see how he is once he wakes from that.

Ironically, OH and I both had the best sleep we've had in ages!

Kaites, how has Emma's sleep been the past couple of nights?

Aimee, still not heard from you, so I do hope your dad is OK.

Kte, sounds like you've been off work for a bit. I didn't know (haven't read all the posts on here, as I've been playing catch-up). Hope you're feeling better, whatever it is/was.

LK, hope James is happier today.

Bye for now xx

Hi everyone,

Sorry if anyone has been worried (Colsy, thanks for your concern :flower:). Dad is on the mend but the drugs are having some wrrying effects - apparently he's developed Cleptomaniacal tendencies (stealing from everyone on the ward then thinking that the objects are his own and refusing to give them back!) and is getting a bit aggressive. Physically though he's doing well and is up and about again and virtually off oxygen completely  Worrying though because the drugs are a permanat fixture to stop this repeating so I'm not sure what we're going to do about that.

Hubby is away for a few days now so I'm trying to fill the next few days until Sunday when he gets back. He is currently on a ferry as far as I know lol. I spent yesterday running around getting sleeping pills and sweets and toiletries and a new backpack for him. I was absolutely shattered. Then I had to go and collect him from work at 8.30 and consequently Earl was awake until 10pm! lol. He did really well though. Got a little bit disturbed at 2ish when the guys were leaving, but apart from that he went through til nearly 6am. I then brought him through to my room which never normally works but he fell asleep for a further 2 hours. I feel great! lol

Trying to figure out how to fill the next few days. We're going to do a car boot on Sunday (me and Earl lol) and I think we're going to get the paddling pool out tomorrow - also considering going swimming. I need a nice park that has swings, ducks and an ice cream man lol....nothing at all like that around here. :nope:

I hope that we're all ok - I'm sorry I've lost track of the thread. Once Earl's in bed tonight I'm planning on mowing part of the lawn (it's massive and takes about 2.5hours in total to do! lol) and then sitting down and doing absolutely sod all with a cuppa and catching up lol.

Oh last bit of news. I've finally got Earl's car seat. In the end we had to go for a 2nd hand one but I got it in Grey for £75 (they're £155-£180 in Mothercare , Maxi Cosi Tobi) and then got a brand new summer cover for it for £17! so for £92 in total we have the car seat sorted. Means that we can afford to move....I was getting a bit disheartened as I though we'd have to borrow some money from MIL to hire the vans but I think I've sussed it....as long as we don't mind beans on toast for the next 14 days! lol :haha:

Right - I think I'm going to take Earl to the shopping centre (don't judge but I'm going to be one of those annoying parents that uses the pet shop like a zoo! lol) and then to the canal afterwards to feed the ducks. Bonus being that there's a couple of nice places to eat and get an ice-cream! Just have to wait for Earl to wake up from his nap  - something maor going on - I've never known him sleep so much since he was newborn!

Morning all,

Ah, sat out in the sun  :D

LK: Hope you get sorted and things clear up and you feel better soon :hugs:

Flora: Glad things have gone well for your sis :flower: They joys of being a woman eh!?!

Chaos: We had a similar kodak camera, like you say, basic but good. Although somewhere between the sideboard and the table I have lost it and i'm gutted as there was some pictures I was yet to upload. You do have some fantastic pics on your FB :flower:

Colsy :hugs: That must have been awful, glad to hear Monty has perked up a bit :flower:

I have been off since the car accident, not that that was the reason, I'd just had enough and needed time out! Nij had moved out and there was all sorts going on there and then the usual money worries, the car accident was the straw that broke the camels back so to speak, my insurance was void as my DD's hadn't paid it and I was in arrears, so my Mum took me to doc's and I got some time off work. (Long story short!) Good job really as then Chloe had the chicken pox scare and then ended up with conjunctivitis and had to be off nursery all last week anyway and I only get 5 dependent's days at work and I have used 1 already so I would of been stuck. Things are getting better and so I go back to work on Monday, going to be weird as I practically been off a month now but thankfully I am back to taking it all in my stride!

Aimee: Glad to hear your Dad is doing well albeit the clepto thing, shame its with the medication, how odd. Sounds like a good day, lol at the Pet store, I used to work in one so I know what you mean about being used as a mini zoo :haha: Enjoy your day when Earl wakes up :flower:

Update on sleep (lack of): OH has spoken to the other HV, who says she has seen this a lot and the best thing we can do is to reduce the amount of time Monty naps in the daytime. OH said, 'But all the books say that sleep promotes sleep', to which she explained that yes, this is true generally, but there is a limit, and obviously if a baby slept for 12 hours in the day, it wouldn't also sleep 12 hours at night, because then it would be permanently asleep LOL. So ... the plan is to wake Monty when he's had a max of 1.5hrs, possible even just 1hr, per nap. Possibly we we also try putting him to bed slightly later. HV said to expect him to be a bit grumpy re this to start with, as obviously he's used to a certain amount of sleep in the day. But she said the same happened with her own son and after a few days of trying the new sleep/nap pattern he was pretty much sleeping through. We shall see ...

On the sickness front, Monty has now woken from his nap and seems fine. You wouldn't know he had been sick last night (apart from his hair smells a bit of sick, even though it's been washed twice already!).

Aimee, great to hear from you and that things aren't too bad. And Kte, yes, I remember your car accident now you mention it, so I hope your time off has helped you chill out a bit.
