bunged - toilet trouble!

my little boy keeps not pooing for 36-48 hours at a time. He's getting uncomfortable I think and when he eventually goes its the biggest (understandbly) poo I've seen! smells just awful too! lol
Is there anything I can give him to help? I heard boiled water cooled can help or is there anything from the chemist that might help?

Try diluting a tiny amount of fresh orange juice with cooled boiled water (and I do mean a tiny amount), that worked for Andrew when he was very young.

Try the water first, if that doesent work try the orange juice and if that doesnt work try the lactulose.

Can you buy lactulose as opposed to getting it prescribed?

Andrew's been on it for 2 months and whilst I know it'd be free on prescription, it's a hassle to organise.

I know you can buy lactulose for adults over the counter... i assume its the same stuff but i don't know for sure xx
