Ladies, is it a definite NO NO to eat haggis during pregnancy? I love it, and with it being burns night and all, my hubby is making the traditional Haggis, Neeps and Tatties!

Im going to have more of the trimmings than the haggis, but surely with the liver content being quite small, its not too bad:wacko:

What do you think?

i have never heard of haggis being a problem in pregnancy, could get a veggie one to be on the safe side - being an ayrshire lassie i will no doubt be partaking in a small portion tomorrow at least!

My DH bought some haggis while we were visiting his parents. He offered me some and I said "no, I'm pregnant, I can't eat it", and his mum (retired MW) said it was perfeclty safe. I didn't have any, because I didn't fancy the idea of it. My dodgy tummy and all, but it is safe to eat...

i was just talking to my mum about this same problem! she is a dietician and said a wee bit would be fine, the actual liver content is only about 10% or so. i've got a veggie one too, gonna mix it up a bit i think. just avoid anything else with vitimin A in it and it will be ok. cant go burns night without a haggis!

awwwwwwwwwwww no. i was just about to make some.

Great News then, Burns night has not been spoiled after all!!

:happydance::happydance::happydance::happydance::happydance:

I was going to have some haggis while I was at my dad's in the UK, and I was just going to stick with the veggie stuff to be on the safe side :)

xx

I'm a Scot living in London and I'm planning to have haggis, neeps and tatties for dinner tonight. I have been searching the internet for information on whether Haggis is safe to eat or not. I should have known that the sensible girls on B&B would have been on to it already.
I couldn't find a comprehensive answer anywhere but agree with the others who've posted already that since the liver content is relatively low a little bit will be fine (just dont have it again tomorrow and the night after too).
Enjoy your Burns Supper ladies!

I hope it's ok as thats my tea tonight - Haggis Neeps and tatties! Yummy! xx

ahh yay!!! i mentioned this on the may babies thread and didnt think anythin of it until someone asked if safe, i googled it and it sent me here haha il be having some tonight thats for sure

haha i like the veggie one better anyway so that's what i'll be having!! mmmmmm nice and spicy! hope it doesn't give me heartburn :haha:

happy burns night everyone!!

:hugs:

Urgh, I am so jealous... I haven't found Haggis over here (I'm living in the US) yet... :( DH is American so hasn't sampled it and isn't particularly inclined to, even if we could find it :dohh:

I did get him to try Black Pudding while we were in the UK though!! He didn't say he didn't like it, but he only had a bite and I ended up eating his and my portion :dohh:

xx

ive ate haggis on about three occassion ssince i fell preg! having it tonight with Tatties no neeps for me the smell makes me boke!!

HAPPY BURNS NIGHT!

I just guzzled my haggis neeps and tatties for tea tonight!

Dont see it being a problem unless your eating the whole haggis?

I ate haggis during my last pregnancy too.

Enjoy!

Well i'm an AYrshire lass and i've just partaken in a lovely plate of haggis neeps and tatties. I am slightly sceptical about all the what you can and cant eat during pregnancy. What did all our mums do years ago? My mum ate what she liked during all her pregnancies and we're all ok!

I had mine at work today and it was magic, it's not burns night without haggis!!!

I read that I can get 'haggis' (not proper stuff, but close) in the US...anyone know where?!

xx
