On my 20 week scan i was told that my placenta was low lying, touching cervix but not to worry as it would probably move up. had a scan on thurs (27 weeks) and was told because it was posterior it was very unlikely to move so i need to be prepared for a c section in 10 weeks. feeling scared and a little a little confused as to why posterior would be any different.

If placenta was at the side, it would move up more as the sides stretch more than the front or back. Don't worry about the csection - i know from experience it can be disappointing that you won't get to experience labour etc but in cases of placenta praevia, it is not an option in order to keep you and baby safe.
I had placenta praevia with my first.

hello i found out at my 20 wk scan my placenta was touchin cervix had to get a re-scan at 34 weeks, to see if it had moved, still hadnt i ad another scan at 36wks, an still not moved, so im now havin to av a c-section in well 6 days :) i was so scared about the whole thing but finaly gettin my head around it, they will re-scan u soon to just double check as they dnt take c-section litely along with low layin placenta so if they can get away with not doin it they will, x

I had a posterior low lying placenta at 20 weeks that moved completely out of the way by 30 weeks.

thank you. its re assuring it can happen. really terrified of doing much in case i bleed

Fingers crossed it moves for u.... Mine was low lying but anterior and it took till 32 weeks to move.... If they can avoid it they will. All the best

Oh I feel for you :(
I'm the same (low posterior) only my scan is at 32 weeks. I really hope I don't have to have a c-section - I want to experience labour again and will feel totally cheated if I don't!
When do you have your next scan?
Rx

My placenta was completely covering my cervix at 28 weeks and although it moved up so the edge was only .8mm away from my cervix, I still didn't bleed until 38 weeks and even then it was a tiny amount and I was given an emergency section straight away. I too worried for 10 weeks about waking up covered in blood etc but even with a major case of placenta praevia, I was lucky to not experience heavy bleeding.

There is nothing you can do except pack a bag for hospital and keep notes with you at all times, do not have sex or check cervix with fingers etc and phone hospital/ambulance if you have any bleeding whatsoever. The chances are your placenta will move up but whether it is enough or not is unknown until nearer the time.

I've had two sections in the past year or so, so pm me if you've any questions.
