I am due to go for my section on Friday and as long as there are no emergencies i'm first on the list so it should all be over and done with my 9am. I have spoken to my consultant and it has been agreed I can go home that night and be with my daughter.

Has anyone else gone home on the same day they have had their C-section?

I didn't but going home the same day seems way too early. I had a c section at 1:30am Sunday. It took me a whole day to go to the bathroom by myself. And I did have a pretty fast recovery (I went walking around the hospital the next day, Monday afternoob). I didn't get to leave til 3 days later on wednesday which I thought was excessive. I think two days is good, couldn't imagine going home the same day tho

I agree with mel. It seems too soon. They kept me in the hospital for three days after surgery. This time they told me it is their policy to have a 72 hour stay and 48 for vaginal birth. Last time I wasn't walking until the following day and had numerous incision checks throughout my stay (each nurse rotation).

I had a c section with my first and had to stay the full three days, although I would have liked to go home a little earlier it didn't happen. For vaginal births here they strongly advise staying 24 hours, I had to plead with my nurse to let me go home 3 hours early with my last LO.

That seems really early after a csection, with DS I was in for 4days and had to beg them to let me go and with DD I was out after 2days. Just do what's right for you, and look after yourself.

My own OB had her 2nd c-section recently. She told me that with her 2nd, she went home on post-op day 2 - and did that against the advice of her OB. She admitted it was probably too early and would have benefited from another day in hospital, but overall it went well if she kept her activity to a minimum. Hard to do with a toddler, which is why she ended up in pain a few times. I don't think 2 days is unrealistic, but I don't think they'll allow same-day. It's major surgery, they probably have some sort of minimum.

I went home after 3 days. I could barely stand by myself the 1st day because of the pain (and not to mention the blood...) and I had a pretty easy/quick recovery.

Is this your first section? If so, then yes, I personally think it's too early.

But with my second c-section, I was independent the night of my surgery, which was at noon. I was drinking, peeing, and getting out of bed using tylenol 3 and Advil as analgesic. I really could have been at home. But, I would have been useless at taking care of my 2 year old, so I took advantage of the grandma childcare and took care of myself and the new guy for 48 hours :)

If I decide to have a 3rd baby, I'll be pushing for an early discharge. Only you know what you're able to do. Just remember to give yourself a break and take it easy or your body will give you shit.

I can't imagine leaving the same day as section :-/ I left under 48 hours last time and I think that was a bit too soon.

This time I'm hoping for about the same time scale though as I want to get back home to my little man.

How are you getting home that night after a section?
My hospital has a policy you have to be in 3 days after a section.

Good luck for tomorrow! I hope you get the outcome you want. Please listen to your body and your instincts and don't be hard on yourself if they tell you that you need to stay a little longer. You might feel great or you might feel like you've been through the wars and vulnerable. Do what your body tells you that you need to do tomorrow - don't try to be too tough!

I had a c-section on a thursday night and they let me go home on Sunday (which they said was early, as normally i would be ok to stay until Monday)...I was taking only ibuprofen in the hospital until the last night, when i went to the bathroom for the first time (#2) and about passed out (they called it a vasovagal reflex or something like that) and they gave me some percoset after that...im glad i went home when i did, but i couldnt imagine going home that first day myself...i wanted to get out of bed and walk around, but couldnt until they took out the cath, once they did, i took short walks, but still, it was much easier to have someone bring me things, and make food for me, and help me with the baby... but its obviously an individual choice, i would just say, dont push yourself to leave if you dont have to! it is a major surgery after all :flower:

good luck for tomorrow hun.

I had my section on a tuesday morning and was home by 10am thursday morning. If i have another this time ill be pushing for 24 hour release. I have a special needs son who i dont want to be away from for longer than neccesary x

Thank you everyone for all your replies

I have a daughter who has autism and she doesn't cope with me not been in the house at bed time. Its not just that night if affects her its for weeks afterwards so I really don't have tome to stay in hospital if i'm in good health.

I have already had a C-section with my daughter but my circumstances were different as I was very poorly with her. I spent 4 days in hospital afterwards but that was in intensive care.

I have been told as long as i'm walking about, using the toilet, eating/drinking, not vomiting and BP is ok then they'll let me go.

I guess we'll find out what's going to happen tomorrow. When I get chance next week i'll let you know how I got on.

thats the same with my son hun :) Ill be asking for my date after my 33+5 growth scan so that i have plenty of time to prepare him for me "disappearing" xx

Hope your csection went smoothly. If they let you go early, please take extra care of yourself. I hope you have lots of help available. Good luck and congrats. :flower:

Hey mama, just wondering how you got on and if you got to home to your daughter? I hope everything went as smoothly as you had hoped!

Hey ladies - Well I didn't get out of hospital until 2pm the next day. Unfortunately I had a bad reaction to the spinal and ended up in high dependency until 10pm (8 hours after the operation). Everyone on the ward knew I planned on leaving on the same day and my consultant even came to see me to confirm it would happen if everything went smoothly. Once I sorted myself out and my daughter was cleared to leave we were out of there.

Good luck to everyone who still awaiting their section! If you really need to get out on the same day it is possible if you don't react to the spinal.

aww hun im sorry you had to stay overnight but thats fab you got out the same day. :hugs: Iv just been told 48 hours minimum :(
