Our 4mo dd has been waking more in the middle of the night. I'm pretty sure it's because she's getting two teeth, however, I'm also wondering if my adding some caffeine to my diet (1/2 caff lattes) is also affecting her.
I read that 300mg should be ok, but wanted to check with the mama experts. I don't drink that much caffeine anyway, but I've really been enjoying a little since I'm back at work.

Id love to hear others experiences with caffeine and bf'ing:coffee:

I have always enjoyed some caffeine while breastfeeding, I stick to the two coffees or four teas rule(or one coffee and two teas lol) which I was told is the reccomended limit. Occasionally I'll enjoy an extra tea or some chocolate over my allowance while my LO is in bed and I've not noticed it cause any irritable behaviour in my LO so far (she is 6 months). I wouldn't test the boundaries and drink/eat anymore caffeine but with what I have daily now seems fine. Your amount by the guidelines shouldn't be causing any changes but if you've only introduced it maybe your LO is more sensitive as she isn't used to it?( I'm no doctor so don't quote me!) But from two lattes I would probably say it's just the teeth but if your worried try cut it out again and if she seems more settled then you've found your culprit if she still seems unsettled at night you know it's the teeth:flower:

I drink about 150-250 mg of caffeine in a typical day. I haven't noticed any difference in my DS (8 weeks), but all babies are different.

I drink one coffee a day and haven't noticed any difference (and I've tried quitting for a week but nothing changed). I'm finding four months old to be a very difficult sleep period. My daughter has been waking every 1-3 hours for the last two weeks. So maybe your LO is just going through a phase and/or teething.

:hi: Vkj,

I drink caffeine, probably more than I should. I have a latte everyday, sometimes two. I work nights so not sure I would survive otherwise. My son is a pretty bad sleeper but it hasn't seemed any better when I've tried to limit or cut out caffeine. Hopefully it's just teething for you?

I'm not really a caffiene drinker but a friend of mine completely cut out coffee/tea/Coca Cola and after a couple of days her lo was much more settled. It may have just been a coincidence but she is sure that made the difference.

My first wasn't bothered by any amount, he was preemie and we had to actively keep him awake at first (to eat). I drank soda then too, less caffeine. With this one, she was colicky when I drank soda, and when I switched to coffee she just didn't go to sleep! I cut down to one half caf per day and slowly worked back to 1-2 full caf and it doesn't phase her at 3.5 months. Now however, it phases me!

I probably drink more than I should but never noticed a problem. If I don't have it for whatever reason I don't find any difference in their behaviour either.

I usually drink decaff coffee but when i have a coffee with caffeine in i havnt noticed a difference and my LO is 3 and half months x

I had tea and coffee and never noticed a difference. It might be the typical 4 months sleep regression😉
