Calling all Fur-parents!

Thanks for your opinions ladies! My best friend lives in the same city so maybe I'll coerce her into coming and giving her fresh water/food/attention. I've never had a cat before so I wasn't sure. Maybe we'll just go to OH's parents for 3 days instead that way my best friend only has to come once.

If your friend won't, you could look into pet sitters. They would at least reliably come in and check (I think most check daily).

I've never looked into the prices of places like this. I do know that a lot of vet offices will board your animals as well. You could call your regular vet and ask them about it.

Me and OH are leaving for 2 whole weeks! I feel so bad for leaving the girls but it's not easy flying cats in and out of Hawaii, their quarantine laws are pretty strict so the girls will stay here and a coworker will come check on them every 2 days or so. He says he will check daily...but he is a doctor and gets pretty busy so he can check more if he likes but at least every 2 is what I asked. And I'm thinking about asking one more person just to give the girls some extra attention.

I personally feel they will be happier in their own space rather than boarding them, but then again it would be different if we didn't have the luxury of people willing to come check on them.

I have left my oldest up to 3 days before without someone checking on her but if it's more than that I have a friend come over.

Sounds pretty good. Costs us $35/day to board the dog. We've never boarded the cats because we've always had someone who can stop in & check on them. That and cats get so stressed that I'd lean towards someone coming to the house over taking them somewhere. But then you have to let someone in your home. :/
Vets might take boarding. I doubt they'd be able to get out of the kennel at the vet's though.

Last night I took in a ridiculously pregnant stray. She's the sweetest thing in the world, but besides her GIANT belly- she is all skin and bones! Poor thing!! I'll be letting her have her babes, keeping them until they're 8 weeks old (deworming and vaccinating them), then finding them homes. Then I will be getting momma cat spayed and hopefully find her a Furever home as well

When I worked at a pet store years ago, someone dropped off boxes of guinea pigs outside the door in the middle of the night. There were almost 30 of them. We took them and cleaned them up and put them in displays so people could take them home. One was pregnant and malnourished. I kept her separate and gave her extra care (I used to breed guinea pigs). She had two babies, and one was fine, but the other was too weak to sit up and couldn't feed. I brought him home and kept him warm and bottle-fed him, but he was just too tiny and didn't make it past four days or so.

I hope her kittens are healthy! I'll be expecting pictures!

So we have a bit of a problem with Soup. I mentioned that we recently got a couple mice to breed. Well, Soup is totally obsessed with them. And in not such a healthy way. She hasn't been eating as much since we got them as she is ALWAYS sitting outside their tank watching them. She literally spends about 95% of her day outside of their tank. She sleeps outside of it, and when she's awake she's laying in front of it watching them. We don't really have anywhere to put them that she couldn't get to and would still be easy enough for us to access them. When we move we are going to put them in a room with a door so then she can't get in, but the only two rooms with doors here are our bedroom and Callum's bedroom. I don't want them in Callum's bedroom and our bedroom door is always open as the dogs' water is in there and they're always going in and out to sleep in there. She is still eating, just not as much. I can't imagine she would starve herself, but she's just so obsessed with them. I thought the novelty would wear off but we've had them for a month now and she has just gotten worse instead of better.

Cats are very curious, and naturally do quite like live prey when they can get it. I highly doubt she'd starve herself. I'm more worried about the stress to the mice with a cat looming over them 24/7.

But if you don't have anywhere else to put them, then you don't have it. I would maybe suggest getting a light fabric (that the sun or light can shine through and is breathable) and draping it over the cage. The cat will still know the mice are there, of course, but it might provide a measure of peace to the mice.

The mice will come out and stare at her, they don't act stressed, even when she goes up to the tank and starts hitting it they'll just sit there. But they do have a cracker box in their tank with the opening facing the back of the tank where Soup can't see so they spend most of their time in there and you can't see them.

They have a wheel and I know they come out at night because I can hear them when I get up with Callum.

She actually seems to be leaving them alone...the past couple of days she's hasn't spent much time watching them. She still does for a bit but she's sleeping in different places now at least haha.

I had a phonecall from my mum this morning saying they had to have the 5year old german shepherd dog pts. He kept chewing things and apparently some of what he had been chewing had been building up in his body. He was at the vets overnight but they said they didnt think he would pull through the surgery.
